Stumped with audio from AX700 no longer audible in any program

The FDR-AX700 doesn't have any options for codecs. I haven't tinkered with settings. My most recent clips are audible on my Win7 with any suitable program, but that's not my editing PC. My editing PC has nothing that will emit sound from these clips even though the level graphs are animated. I edit with Resolve but I also fed them to VLC, Media Player and Audacity. Nothing. The clips from my A7III from the same job are playing just fine.

I suspected a missing codec but comparing side by side, line by line, both PCs have the same 10 codecs listed. I tried exporting various WAV and MP3 from Audacity. I even did a 'Record what you hear' on the good PC in an attempt to skirt around anything from the original surviving through the conversion except the sound itself. No luck. I am stumped trying to think of what took a dislike to the AX700 audio tracks all of a sudden. The video is OK. Catalyst Browse barely gives any audio metadata information so there's nothing distinctive revealed there.

I could be wrong, but it sounds like a Windoz problem to me. I would suggest going through the audio troubleshooting list on the following page. On the other hand, it may be a failed audio output stage on the sound card, integrated or otherwise. As you suggest, more than likely a codec issue. If all else fails and the issue is fairly recent, just try a System Restore to an earlier date prior to the loss of audio date.

Codecs! Don't know which one, don't care. I had the latest K-Lite Codec Pack in my download folder so I went for it. I typically only run those updates when I absolutely have to. I guess I had to. They are such a jumble of excess items I don't need. My needs are pretty plain Jane. Speaking of which I just blasted Jefferson Starship's "Jane" to unwind myself after this frustrating day. Still a great rock classic.
