stuff that always looks good in movies

I wanted to start something where people can post shots/techniques that always look good, no matter what (okay, with some technique behind them). Maybe, if we come up with enough, we can make the perfect movie. I'll start with two obvious ones.

Slow motion: I don't care what anybody says, slow motion ALWAYS looks good, especially with music. I could watch it for days.

blur: Blurred out shots always look good. Particularly at night with a bunch of different colored lights in the background.

Yeah, especially like at the end of all of Wes Anderson's films.

Hmmm, I can't think of any off hand. :undecided

oh well, I tried to start a serious thread.

This is VERY serious, I mean, did you hear what was said about Winona Ryder??

I mean, you know the saying about crackers in bed and all, but I gotta say that sometimes she scares me! But with the right lighting she can look pretty good, just don't leave your wallet laying around! ;-)

...oops, sorry, isn't this the Winona Ryder thread?

I think it's great she got away with stealing. I think all celebrities should get away with murder (Cough O.J.).

I would mind it either if she actually got away with it, it's just embarrassing that she not only got caught but was convicted.

probably community service and a fine, but I was actually gonna say that I might not mind if she walked off with my wallet depending on how she got a hold of it.
;-)

Obviously, you haven't seen what happens when Jean-Claude Van Damme and John Woo team up ("Hard Target"). Every time Van Damme spin kicked someone, it was in slow motion-- and if you've ever seen a Van Damme flick, you know he spin kicks at least one or two guys in every scene. Along with the repeat cuts of each spin kick from about 6 different angles, that's a lot of slo-mo! Try watching that for days!

I really would have a hard time listing any technique/device that works in any situation or any given movie. Certain techniques just lend themselves to certain situations and should be used with moderation in other situations (or risk ending up with "Hard Target 2" in the can).
