Strobing ?

Very slooooow download. But from what I saw so far, I am quite concerned by the concentric banding artifacts to be seen on the plain wall.

THe banding - more showing in the compression

the nikon 70-200 well known for having drop off

any compression will be challenged by a subtle tone

wait till you see the pan across the files that what worries me

That is the conclusion I am arriving at , 180 shutter means that the image is not recorded 50% of the time

This is almost visible (during pans over in focus complex forms) at 30p and seems very visible at 25p

Solutions..

dont pan (medium slowly) over complex forms
use EX1 with shutter OFF
Use 50p and blend the frames ?

Use slomo to represent such shots

I am experimenting with sofware solutions

I shot another test this morning

http://www.sammorganmoore.com/smmcom/7d_test/7d_Test1_3.mov

in actual use the cam footage looks OK apart from being a B1tch to focus

(80-200 G nikon jammed open - Ive ordered a 70-200F4 canon after that!)

OK

Ive been baffled by this 25p thing all day

I was expecting a solid film look but Im just getting eye ache from judder

I read all the stuff about pan speeds which seem really slow

Ive been loking at some of my DVDs (jarhead, apple trailers) frame by frame - heavy duty fast faced action

Im seeing some ghosting - like my 30p to 25p conversion and big blurs like the shutter speed is actually 1/24th

While recording 24/25p may be the nuts how do I play it back?

Am I watching a 'pulldown' when I watch those DVD and trailers or are they actually filming at higher FPS - or what ?

Is thier some secret about frame blending or something ?
