FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

I finally watched, "Stricken!" Bought it on AT&T U-Verse and Matt, Gary & Troy, I'll have to tell you that this is the first On-Demand movie I have ever bought. I support you guys! I'll have to say I was impressed with quite a few things in the movie. Right off the back, I love the opening titles. Very, very nice. Excellent opening to the movie. I thought you had some great, great crane shots as well. The special fx were really good and quite creepy too. Had me wondering how you did some of that. You guys have got a flare for horror, I'd say. I thought the acting was good in spots and okay in others. The only nitpicks for me would be a few of the establishing shots (house, her work, the hospital) - something seemed off. The other thing - a couple of the interior car scenes. Her POV - the fog seemed to be some kind of loop (like the same fog repeated) and the car didn't seem to move (no up and down motion of a car). Other than that, I just want to say great, great job! I read the credits and you really did just have a crew of 3. An amazing accomplishment to get all of this done with all of the people and all of the locations.

So proud of you guys and makes me feel good to see dvxusers out there competing with the big boys. Hell yeah!!

Thanks, Marlon! We appreciate it! We shot really ambitious because we had an ILM guy who was going to do the vfx. He dropped out and I had to learn how to do all the fx to make our ambitious shots work. Thanks again for watching!

ROGERS is now live. Michael Anthony Horrigan...you can now watch it as well as all of my other Rogers network Canadian friends!!

One of the musicians, Scott Seargeant, who made music for the end credits of Stricken, asked me to put together moments of Stricken to his haunting folk song "But She Won't" Here is the video: Enjoy!

Cool Matt, keep it up. Wish I knew how to post this kind of stuff in my thread...I just link it but it doesn't look as cool :)

Finally got to see Stricken. Here's my little review.

First off, congratulations for pulling this off. That alone requires some sort of congratulations. Well done. You did what so few of us have yet to accomplish.

Some notes I took.

The film didn't fill the screen. It was surrounded by a border. Might want to contact Rogers about that. Not sure.

Nice opening credits and nice opening shots, minus the establishing shot. It was dark and didn't look too clear to me. The SFX were one of the strong points in this film. As was the way it was shot. Nice crane shots. Looked good, maybe too bright and colorful though. Especially early on.

Some scenes went on a little long and seemed to drag just a tad. If I was going to try and give any advice it would be to improve the pacing a bit in the next feature and go over the writing.

I also have to say that while the lead wasn't bad I didn't think she was that great either. No offense. That hurt the film a bit for me. This might be a personal thing though. Did you guys win any acting awards? Just curious how the festivals rated it in that regard.

Little things. More coverage and better sound design. I wanted to hear noises when people moved in chairs and whatnot. The framing was really good in many shots but I wanted more coverage. Especially in the diner scenes and such.

Music was good but maybe overused. Quieter might have worked better for some of the jump outs. Nice score though. Great lighting as well. Minus some of the outside scenes at night.

SFX was pretty cool. Loved some of the stuff near the end.

For your first feature I would say that you guys did an admirable job. It looked pretty pro.
Congratulations on getting this one finished and for all of your success.

I'll be watching your next movie with interest. Best of luck, guys.

Thank you, Michael! Many of your notes are in our notes on what to do different next time as well. We learned a lot through the process of Stricken and, while we learned a lot we will do differently in the future, are definitely proud of the end product. :)
To answer your question, Steph and David have been nominated for acting awards and I have been nominated for director awards but we have not won them. Both have recieved great reviews from horror sites like horror society and 28dayslater. We did win the overall Horror Film and Best Vfx. Thanks for watching! I will check with Rogers about the border around the movie! Thanks again! Matt

That's sucks! Oh, well. At least you were able to learn a new skill.

I am SOOOO glad the effects guy dropped out because although I went through 10 months of insanity. I learned SOOO much that is benefiting my career now. :) Hooray!

No worries. I'm sure I'll make many more mistakes during my first feature.
You should be proud, it's quite an accomplishment. Best of luck with the next one and congrats on the new festival acceptance.

Matt I cant see your movie being in Australia. Quite frankly - I just want to say congratulations again.

Any idea when I could see this? I'm in Finland so DVD seems like the only option.
We should hear news about when it will be available on DVD soon. Are you able to get Hulu Plus or Netflix? If so, it should be on those providers in a few months.
