FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

I received an email a bit ago that blew my mind. It is HUGE and I can't discuss it too much, but I can say that we have someone I HIGHLY respect and is VERY experienced on our side for getting distribution. He has offered to be with us at meetings and let his contacts check out Stricken as well. I am very excited and humbled. AWESOMENESS!

Nice. It's great to have experience lend a hand.

We've got a little of that lined up as well and I'm sure it will pay off for you by having them help you out. Even if it just adds a little more comfort level for you.

Good luck with it.

We just had an excellent screening of Stricken for my family. We showed them on an 8 foot screen and HD projector and even had out of town relatives from Michigan here. They loved the movie and were quite proud. They really loved the acting, and they jumped, laughed and cringed at all the right moments. I was very pleased.

Here is a shot of the Restored 1930's theater and the Poster for Stricken outside it.

Also, during a scary moment in the film, Matt's wife Heather (Trinket in STRICKEN) saw that my sister-in-law Kathy Johnson from Michigan who she was sitting by was looking terrified. When she put her hand on Kathy's shoulder to comfort her, Kathy literally jumped out of her skin and screamed! That reaction is just what we want! Whoooo Hooooo! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

I am in the Editing Chamber of Glory. We are burning a the watermarked Blu-ray Screener. We will duplicate that and it will be what we send and hand out to distributors. :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Tomorrow we travel to Avenal to finalize the digital set up for the first screening premiere at the Avenal Theater. :kali:

Thanks! I have a new illusion coming out sometime soon I hope to help with finishing Stricken. "SPIN" Here is the teaser:

Bullcrap. Matt has TK and only believes everyone else can do these tricks. LOL. Seriously dude, for some reason I've just seen this today and had to comment.

But I haven't been here on this thread in awhile and first I want to say congrats on the project. And I gotta tellya, I was giving your teaser a look. The film looks like a darker version of "Push" (I say that because I saw Push recently so it's the film that immediately came to mind as I know this was around awhile before) but I really love the scene of the two girls hanging on the from the ledge. I have an idea how it's done but can you clue me in on where you got your ledge (photo or 3d) and how you got it to look so good. I know the basics and I've seen similar effects in movies and even some music videos.

Nathyn, Stricken takes my short Push and stomps it into the mud in every area, then buries it, then laughs at it, then shoots it, then throws it off a cliff, then sings at its funeral. It is in a different league.:cheesy: The hospital is a matte painting by our digital matte painter Tim Nargi.

This is amazing. And when I said "Push" I was talking about the movie, but I do remember you doing a film called "Push". That was the one with the great shootout scene in the parking garage right? And thanks for the breakdown. I'm looking at all the FX breakdowns I can find so I can be ready to do my thing.

Oh, well in that case...Thanks! :2vrolijk_08: No prob on the VFX breakdown. I like to help. -Matt

Nathyn: We were blessed to have the run of the actual Avenal Hospital in Avenal California. It was closed but still functional and had most of the room equipment in it. We shot closets, kitchen, operating room and numerous hospital rooms and hallways. All of our hospital scenes and rest home scenes were shot there.

The people of Avenal were wonderful and our two weeks there were so fun!

Here is BTS of the showing of STRICKEN to family members for the first time. We used a Sony HD projector (TY Shane Foster!) a PS3 blu-ray player and an 8' reflective screen. Sound was on a 1200watt Carvin system. Here Matt gets hugged by his grandmother Laurieanne. She and his grandpa Jerry made three of the greenscreen mirrors for the Sarah Black house. Notice we also screened our fun demo short NORRIS that showed off the things possible with our one of a kind Aftershock Bodycam and SpinRig.

Everyone settled in to enjoy the show, complete with popcorn...

Once I moved... We watched the film. It was cute to see many family members really scared by it. Yay! It worked like it was supposed to!

Later in the week Matt was interviewed on the radio. Here Matt takes care of business while waiting for the show to start.

Matt talked about STRICKEN and the future film THE PARK. Stars DAVID FINE and STEPHANIE FRENCH chatted from their homes on the phone with Matt. We set up a GH1 to get BTS shots.

Matt had fun chatting with David and Stephanie on the air.

More later... We will be on NBC in Fresno on 'Central Valley Today' this morning promoting STRICKEN. Tell you how it goes soon! :D

Wow! This is really cool. Some friends and I got to shoot at an abandoned hospital once, but they tore it down before I could shoot in there.

-Nate

Just watched Central Valley Today that I had set the PVR to record. Very good interview. Nice that all three of you got a chance to talk about your role in making the film. Way cool that they promoted all of the premier events. Just great PR all around. Good job, Matt, Gary & Troy!

Got back from NBC show and things went well. We promoted the heck out of STRICKEN. They were very nice to put on our teaser trailer while we talked over, and also posted the addresses and times of the premieres. Everyone had a good time and the NBC brass at the station took us out for lunch afterwards.
Here is a pic of the radio interview.

Matt and I traveled to Avenal Theater to tweak the digital system to do well with STRICKEN. It is set up for tapes and this was to be the first blu-ray so we had to adjust the settings of the unit. It also wasn't set up for 5.1 Surround Sound, so we turned that on. Here Matt and I shoot a pic of us in the double reflection of our STRICKEN poster.

Matt in front of the digital control unit for two theater screens. When we screened the movie originally, the settings were set so high everything pixilated horribly. Matt discovered the settings for the control unit and the tweak was on... On screen you see actor Kenn Arola in the graveyard scene.

Here is an amazing shot DVXusers! This is STRICKEN ON THE BIG SCREEN!!! Matt is watching to check color correctness, contrast, hue, and brightness. Just think how great a moment this was after 2.5 years of work from writing script to this moment. Matt must have made 20 adjustments until he was satisfied. STRICKEN will be ready to rock the sold out audiences on June 25th!
4724728572_0a79dd62af_b.jpg

Matt then wrote down the settings and changed them back for the Toy Story 3 showing that was coming later in the morning on tape.
4724075373_73515b2d23_b.jpg

We then fixed the surround sound. The blu-ray player was set to stereo, so we changed it to 5.1 and went in for a listen. GREAT!

Hey... That's OUR movie poster in that case! Cool!

We will have a BTS cameraman on for the premiere on Friday and also will be running an HVX with Shocklights on the sidewalk here to interview moviegoers as to their experience. Each interviewee will sign a release form and then will be a part of STRICKEN history. We have two superstretch limos that will be bringing in the cast to the red carpet. Spotlights will be spinning, cameras will be flashing (we are buying a lot of throwaway cameras to give to the crowd who will be encouraged to flash, hehe) and news cameras will be rolling.

Matt will be on the Alan Autry radio show today at 11am pacific time on 940 KYNO radio, Fresno. You can go online and listen at the KYNO website. We will then be getting a huge banner with STRICKEN info on it to put up at the Oakhurst Premiere site. Things are rolling toward distribution!

We had a really fun time pumping up our film. The host Alex Delgado was very excited and really pumped up seeing STRICKEN. She was very professional and nice.

Radio show this morning! KYNO 940...Go online to their site and listen!

Cool stuff. Did you guys REALLY get a PG-13 rating? That was a fast process if so.

I know how it feels to see your film on the big screen in front of a full-house, it ROCKS! Enjoy every moment of it! :)
