FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

Now I know why you called me about which microphone I used.

Yeah, and your mike was reeeeaaaaallly good! Alan, you would have loved watching Steve Tibbo do his art. He was so adept at what he was doing... He actually made it look easy, and it isn't easy. BTW, I don't think we had any ADR on any scenes you where you ran boom. Well done! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Thanks Gary,

Watching a pro in an ADR session do his/her thing naturally is an art. Did you guys record a video of it besides stills?

Matt had a really good time with Kenn Arola for his ADR session. Steve was AWESOME as usual, and they got their looping session done in record time. Kenn is a hard worker and takes direction well. Here are some pics:

Here is Kenn actually doing his ADR lines.

"Look it's me!" I finished my ADR looping FAST! (Dig that Atari shirt Kenn!)

Matt will be going down on Sunday with Sydney Mason (Friend 1), Stephanie French (Sarah Black), and one other actor for all final ADR looping. It should be a full day on Monday and ADR WILL BE FINISHED! Go guys! :2vrolijk_08:

It is getting close now... :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Matt has been on VFX for the last reel to finish (reel 3) all day. He has finished a really cool scene with David Fine as Detective Aro and Stephanie French as Sarah Black fighting against... something not good. I am proud of him and his 12-16 hour days on this film.

I have been immersing myself on the next feature screenplay. It is a comedy, and today I laughed myself hoarse when working on a scene. That is fun. :cheesy: It is over 75% done, 90 pages in. I am working final dialog for Act 3, then Matt goes at it.

We hope to enter a feature, a short and a screenplay at Action on Film this year. :kali::shocked:

Well I have been working hard at finishing Reel 3's VFX. I will be traveling down to LA again soon with the concept creator of Stricken, David Gilders. We will finish the ADR on Monday and head back up to the mountains. Reel 3's VFX should be done within 1-2 weeks. After that, it is simply touching up VFX and finalizing some exterior shots then sound fun time!

Here is a shot from the VFX I have been working on from Reel 3

Well, I am headed down to LA again today for the final phase of ADR which will start tomorrow. I am excited to get this stage in the bag and I am also excited I am about halfway done with REEL 3's VFX. We are so close now I can taste it. -Matt

Well, 1:18 am and I just made it home from LA. ADR went great and now all the dialogue is recorded. Brad Semenoff now has it. I met up with him in Studio City and gave it to him. Concept Creator of the short film, David Gilders went with me and we had a blast hanging out with Stephanie French and her roommate Melissa. We also enjoyed seeing Sydney Mason for her pickup dialogue in the cemetery. The sound crew is finalizing their design, James Mierkey is finishing the score, and I am Finishing VFX. All of this should come crashing together soon for what will be a finalized film. Rock on! -Matt

Matt has just rendered out a 32 bit TIFF sequence of the large VFX section of reel three. He was using After Effects CS4. He is now finished with all the hardest VFX for reel 3. Except for final VFX tweaks and balancing of all color correction, reels 1, 2 and 3.1 (our reel 4) are now done. Credits still need to be done, but the opening sequence is completely finished.

Matt talked to James Mierkey the composer today and the score is coming along nicely.

There is a big push on right now to finish all VFX, sound design, foley, score and dialog editing by May 17th to get it all to Steve Tibbo for mixing.

Ladies and gentlemen, the light is bright at the end of the tunnel...

The Editing Chamber of Glory is moving full steam ahead! Matt is doing CC on some Reel 3 shots with David Fine in the bedroom at Sarah Black's house.

We had to flip that bed in the bedroom so many times... It was completely brass and very heavy. We usually got actor Kenn Arola to get on one of the legs, with Matt, Troy and I on the others. With four guys we would just spin it completely and then set up camera and shoot. We even had two Shocklights in there most of the time.

One time shooting in there we used the Hypercrane 10' short rig and put on a 90 degree look down head. We used that to shoot a God's eye view two shot in the bed. It worked very well. Well, speak of it... Matt is CC'ing that very shot right now. Fun, fun, fun! :Drogar-BigGrin(DBG)

Well, I am off to bed for an early shoot for Troy Ruff's Westfest entry. I just set off a render of REEL 3 except for a few things in a flashback scene (Over 30,000 frames). I am almost done with it and expect to finish it in the next few days. :cheesy:

The render went well, getting close now... :kali:

We worked all day on Troy Ruff's Westfest entry, "By Hook or Crook" yesterday. Mucho cowboy chases and gun fights... Mustangs and six shooters. Then Matt went to a fundraiser to help a boy who went to a sober grad, fell asleep and crashed on the way home sustaining a traumatic brain injury. Matt edited a video to help the family raise money to pay medical bills. They raised over $2000. Good job Matt.

It was interesting how much we knew for shooting Troy's western short that we learned by hard knocks on the sets of STRICKEN.

UPDATE: Drum roll please...........................My VFX are DONE! I will now be rendering out a Blu-ray VFX pass of the whole movie to watch and take notes on for final VFX tweaks but 10 months of Post is now done. I just shipped out the last reel to the sound guys and soon will be mixing. :2vrolijk_08::cheesy: Take that all you people who said I was crazy and that this was too ambitious and could not be done for under 5 million dollars! :nads: Mwah Ha Ha! -Matt

I'm really excited for you guys. A small production taking on a feature is a daunting task and to now be so near to completion, must be an amazing feeling.

Congrats guys, good luck with whatever you do with it. I look forward to watching it, whenever that may be.
