FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

Last night, Troy and I were interviewed on camera about Stricken for a 10-15 minute segment on a TV show called Eye on Horror. It will be coming out around Halloween and has a couple scenes playing behind me as I talk that have not been seen by the public yet. I think it went well and am excited to see it. :engel017:

Here are some stills from my current work on Sarah's Dreamscape. It is getting closer to the final look. The tracking shot now works flawlessly and After I complete it, I move on to rendering some static plates to finish it up. I may add one other tracking shot, but we will see.

Congratulations on the coverage.

Is it a local show?

Or are they interested in Horror in general as I helped a friend get his horror film a deal at the AFM last year and it's releasing in Nov. as well as working on a Zombie flick myself and would definitely love to pitch these to them if they're looking everywhere for independent horror.

It is a local show about what is going on in the local horror community. I need to find out exactly when it will be showing. :)

awesome!!! great test Matt.
I can imagine that took a great deal of time to render for sure...
The movement and pacing were really nice.
And the elements of the mountain background and the ground were really well done.

I do have some feedback tough, I hope you do not mind!

I am not a pro filmmaker for sure (just starting), but as a digital 3D artist there are few things I would make adjustments too enhance the quality and tone of the scene.

For one, the fact that the shot is so clean in it's excecution, tends to make the digital elements feel even more digital. Placing a bit of movement within the frame will make it feel more real..(maybe it could start slightly shaking and then increase right when you pull back fast! all of this in post of course)

girl-mountains-ground-all good!

Clouds....the Clouds I feel are competing with the other elements and taking away from them. I would go with a subtle, less contrasting series of cloud layers that are easy on the eye. The contrast in the white/blue makes them very noisy. Also, choosing a different color palette for the clouds will increase the dreamlike nature of the scene by not using clear sky day.

I hope that helps! I cannot wait to see the film complete!

Thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it. :) The dream sequence starts beautiful and clean then turns dark and shaky. I am definitely NOT a 3d artist so a lot of this is new to me. It is fun though!:engel017:

that helps to know its a dream that starts off pleasantly....I did not know that!
that makes all the difference in the world then...

Thanks for the email! It starts off pleasantly, then moves to a darker ominous then terrifying conclusion that makes Sarah wake suddenly.

I met with Matt and 'the Terminator' computer on Saturday and we edited the cemetary and funeral scene. (We put in 7 hours and between renders worked on our next film screenplay. As it is a comedy, we were laughing uproariously as we brainstormed hilarious sequences.)

In the cemetary sequence Sarah Black sings an ancient Celtic song (written by Matt specifically for this film) that will be highly orchestrated.

Actress Stephanie French sings the song herself, and has an absolutely beautiful voice. The song is haunting and touchingly sad. The hypercrane and hypercam were used in the shots used in these secnes. I am very excited about these scenes and the cool feel of the edit there.

We are going to be laboring now for the last quarter of the year to finish a final edit. :engel017:

We should have a great night of editing tonight then it is off to a Highland Games in Ventura! I am Scottish by heritage and my Dad and I are heading to the annual Gordon Clan meeting. I have some definite excitement about how things are going for the film. It is coming together VERY well, and is shaping up to be what I hoped it would. I am REALLY glad we prepared so hard for the shoot because the planning gave me the coverage and acting depth I needed. Thank you Judith Weston for the amazing "Directing Actors" book. It is my directing Bible. But above all thank you to all the people who worked so hard to get this in the can.

Okay, so I have been lurking...just keeping tabs on progress but I had to pop out of the shadows to say that that effect test is freakin' sick (in a good way). Props, Matt.
