FEATURE: Stricken the Feature - A Matt Sconce Film

More wire removal now... another scene.

I was wire removing away when a huge thunder storm blasted all the power out today. The CyberPower 1500AVR battery back up worked perfectly and the scene being worked on was finished all with no other power on in the chamber of editing bliss. Thank God for that backup. Lightining pounded away on the area for a good half hour. Power was out for a few hours only, which in the Sierra Nevada is pretty good. We usually lose power near Yosemite here about 4 times per winter for various and sundry weather events.

I had to fire up the snow plow (a 4x4 tractor with a plow blade) and plow the driveway to help Matt's wife Heather get out to go somewhere. The hail on the driveway was one inch deep. That's a lot of hail.

Back to it... :violin:

Dang that looks good, guys!

Thanks! Two big news items. First, a very generous friend has agreed to pay for our sound design asking only that we pay him back when we sell the movie. We have already received half the payment and will be having a spotting session in Burbank sometime next week or the week following.

The second news item is that my illusion SPIN just went nationwide. It is available at all magic retailers and was just accepted into one of magic's most prominent online dealers at ellusionist http://www.ellusionist.com/spin-by-matt-sconce.html

It is crazy to see my effect up there because they are one of the reasons i started magic. I learned and grew there and now have an illusion for sale on their site. It is HARD to do so I am stoked. I am also excited because I am looking at the revenue that will come in in February and March as the completion money for Stricken. Woohoo!

Okay...now back to some wire removal...

Here are a couple of shots from the Scoring Spotting Session. We will be spotting the sound design at Black Box Entertainment on February 3rd.

I am excited to be going with Matt and Jame Mierkey to do a sound design spotting session in Burbank, CA at Black Box Entertainment February 3rd. Star Stephanie French (Sarah Black) will meet us there. The film is turning out sooooo good! Lot of work ahead, but we joyously plow into it. :D

Forward ever forward, never settling! :kali:

she looks great on that screen!!

Yeah, Isn't she pretty? And... She can REALLY ACT! Wow!

The thing that impresses me most about Stephanie French is what a 'never say die' team player whe is on set. What a joy to produce a film with actors (like you, David) who totally commits to a project.

:love4:

Matt was laid off as of last Friday at his NBC station due to lack of commercial work and now will be working on STRICKEN full time 8-10 hours a day. Interesting... NBC in Fresno is in so much trouble that they had to lay off an EMMY nominated editor. This is actually a blessing, as STRICKEN is a great film and now Matt, who is a fantastic editor/compositor, will now be able to really rock this film without having to piece it together on after work hours.

Always forward! :kali:

Director Matt Sconce, AD Troy Ruff, Composer James Mierkey, and I are traveling to Black Box Entertainment in the morning for a day of Sound Design spotting goodness. We will rock the sound! :engel017:

Whew! We are finally home. It was great! We have the same people working on this that have done the sound for American Pie, the Office, Fear Clinic, and LXD (League of Extraordinary Dancers with Jon Chu). They are rocking Professional and very talented. We are now all on the same page and they are now hard at work on Stricken Sound Design. They are located in Burbank.

The League of Extraordinary Dancers are freaking sweet. Sounds like you're moving along. Awesome, can't wait till I can see it.

And now... (drum roll)... MATT SCONCE enters the Editing Chamber of Glory for 8 hours (or more) a day until the VFX etc., are finished!

'VFX to be finished' :violent5:Matt

Burn it up kid! :Drogar-Happy(DBG):

Glad to hear about such great progress guys. Are the sound mixers doing foley and using their proprietary sound library also? Any on set sound being used?

What percent of the budget do you recommend films under 500,000 allocate to sound design?

Thanks and good luck!

I recommend having an on site sound supervisor and pro boom operator for everything so that could be 10-20 k. I then recommend budgeting about 20-40k for post sound work. I highly recommend Black Box Entertainment.

Sounds good Gary. Thanks.

BTW, did you guys have one person share the role of on site sound supervisor and pro boom operator or did you have two people wearing separate hats?

We usually had two people doing the two jobs. As we used the HVX for a lot of the sound, Matt and sometimes the AD Troy Ruff set and watched the levels and I did boom. The HVX has kicking sound abilities so we didn't lose a lot using it. Other than myself and Troy, Huy Vu and Alan Chang (DVX users) helped with boom and sound and both were very good and very professional. I can hardly wait to hear the sound design and complete foley being done by Black Box. Matt, Troy, composer James and I were very impressed with their reel's sound design samples. Wow. I laughed when we toured the foley sound studio room they will be using... There was so much stuff in there, it looked like my construction shop Ha!

Hey guys! Stricken VFX are coming along little by little. Everything else has now launched toward the finish line!

On a side spiftabulous note, my dad finished the Prototype of the Aftershock Maelstrom device that goes onto the Aftershock Bodycam. It is basically....Mindblowing. It lets you have 360 degree freedom around a person while maintaining a shot on the target. Love it! Check it out. Here is the video of the first Alpha test. Enjoy!

WOW! WOWOWOW!

You guys are amazing! I don't think I've ever seen anything like that before, not even in big budget Hollywood movies.

Right?

Wow...

UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING! It's like a 360 degree snori-cam.

You guys are an unbelievable father/son team. I hope there's a special feature about how you guys work together and create gadgets on the blu-ray. Seriously, you guys are great.

That's really cool, and very smooth. I've seen a similar effect in some movies, like Baz Luhrman's Romeo + Juliet, but I don't think he did it with an actor mounted rig, so I'm sure he couldn't do the effect with a moving actor.

I'm sure tons of people would want to buy that thing. Including me of course, but I'll never be able to afford it.

Thanks so much! We really are close. Matt and I can sit down and sometimes it seems like we are one brain in two bodies. He really compliments me and I him in creativity. On the BTS, sadly, we didn't have anyone shooting film of us making the movie STRICKEN as we all had a job (actually many jobs...lol!) on set. We did get a lot of outtakes that are funny though.

We will be producing a demonstration film later this month showing all the amazing things the Aftershock Bodycam can do. We hope to sell it to a company that will do a good job with it and make quality devices at a fair price for we indie film makers. We have yet to think about all the amazing shots this device can get. The Maelstrom is just one of four attachments! :Drogar-Happy(DBG):
