Strength of the GH1 hot shoe?

Has anyone seen how well the hot shot mounts to the frame inside the GH1?

I've been tinkering with a DIY top handle, but I'm concerned about how strong the shoe mount is. I can feel it flex a tiny tiny bit under my rigs weight, but it seems OK so far.

Experience? Input?

I know its not easy to replace if it does break :P

With the extra gear you may want to find something that mounds to the bottom mount...

I have a shoe mount on the top of the mattebox too, so i might try bridging the weight between the mattebox and GH1 shoe. Maybe like a handle with shoe mounts at each end.

That would make sense too... I have been intertested in seeing how a rig like that would mount on the Halo Rig mini which is about to be a sponsor here... A cage would be the best solution.

I wouldn't even carry just the weight of a camera in a hot shoe mount - either on camera itself or a matte box. Hot shoe mounts are not designed for that kind of load or stress.

I know the GH1 isn't built like the 5D, but canon's shoe is anchored really well to the unibody. It can hold a bunch of weight. After some testing, a shoe top handle is absolutely fine with the GH1 only. I trust it much less under additional weight (like my pic above).
