Hunter I def know you know whats up...so i; not sure what you had at your disposal to work with but the sound wasnt good and it seems pretty underexposed. did you have lighting and decent mics for this? I know sometimes we dont have the stuff we want or need to get the job done the way we would like....thats why i ask.
Oh for sure man - thanks for commenting. When I posted, I didn't have the time to explain what went down but I will now.
Basically it happened as follows:
We finished wrapping up a short commercial to promote their grand opening and they had another idea - 2 days ago. They wanted to get it done and out there. I showed up with my Zoom H4n and had a lav...batteries died. Of course it was a late shoot, I forgot my bag with extra batteries, cables, etc and there was no time. The client understood and asked that we proceed regardless. With regards to the lighting, I don't think it was underexposed per se (one notch below on the meter is usually how I shoot), but it definitely would have benefited with some lights. If you're referring to the "training" type shots, it was a bleached look I was aiming for and darker was sort of the goal. It may not have transferred as well as I would have liked, but that's due to the time constraints. I really should have spent some more time colour correcting, amongst other things.
At the end of the day, I'm not here to make excuses - there were a lot of things I would change about the video given the chance (framing, lighting, audio and more well planned shots). The studio was also under construction this week, so it limited where I could shoot and from what angles.
The client was pleased with the final product for its intended use, but I would of course love to re-shoot and re-edit the entire thing.
wasn't bad, The only problem I had was the angle of the speakers, I felt like they were looikng in between say, the cam or someone off set, not not either completely, hard to explain.
Completely agree with you maran. I should have paid more attention to eye lines and body positioning. Good catch - made it look a little awkward. First time on camera for these guys, so I'm sure as we progress they'll become more comfortable and I'll ensure correct eyeline.
koolbeans. As i suspected...cuz i know you have good work so no worries. the bleach look was fine..but it all seems dark. I 2 also shoot at one notch below with manual primes( of course till they crap out on me and act weird where i have to expose a diferent way, still duno why that happens. anyway, as long as the client liked it.
