I don't know if camera manufacturers follow the same terminology, but in movie and book retailing, the "street date" is the first date you can offer a product for sale. So you might get it in stock on the 9th, but if the street date is the 11th, you're not allowed to put it out on the shelves until the 11th.

What about folks who pre-ordered the 7D at Best Buy weeks ago? Does that mean their order goes out for shipment to their home on the 11th? And arrives a few days after the 11th?

It is telling that the 7D will be available from Best Buy on nearly day one, while the GH1 still can't even seem to find its way to be stocked on shelves of even minor vendors. Either the GH1 is extremely popular, or Panasonic really has a problem getting their cameras out the door. Anyway, great news if the 7D is shipping next week. I can't wait!!
