Street Angels Documentary

Very impressive... it's a real "eye opener". I enjoyed it, and I think other's will too. Video looks good, heavliy color corrected, but looks good. Audio sounded alright, well, I could make out what everyone was saying, so that's a plus. Dig the first two songs (NIN and the other) but not quite sure if I like'd the "runaway train" theme. It didn't seem to fit as well as the others.

Another thing that I wanted to see was more of thier lifestyle. Where, and how, do they sleep? a shot of a bunch of kids sleeping on the sidewalk would have been very powerfull. They talk about "dumpster diving", but we didn't get to SEE it. That's my only critique... It's all talk, and we don't really get thrown into the lifestyle to truly understand how hard it is.

I do have a couple of questions... most importantly, what is that transition??? I've seen it around, but can't find it, and it's driving me crazy. The quick "flash" of light and jump cut to another shot. How do you do it????? argggg!

Also, was that shot with a 35mm adapter, or just straight dvx? What did you edit it on? and is that all Magic Bullet CC, or some by hand?

all in all, I really liked it, and think you guys did a great job.

Liked the look very much. Fits the subject. As said, sound was very clean, despite outdoor shooting. Agree with mr Brown up here: don't talk it, show it! Spend time with these kids and something is bound to happen, something that will show how the kids have to survive/cope/deal/fight whatever.

For a school assignment it's a very nice video- a promise for the future! Also curious how you shot and edited.

good luck,

Very impressive mr. raddrew. but a few questions i might have my friend? Now what kind of sony handy cam do u use? how big is your steady cam? now ive been editing with the current stacked vcr set up for a while now and im thinkin about skipping upgrading to a mixer and go straight to the avion computor station. Do you think that is a good idea? I heard this guys named Snead can teach me how to use one real good. Do you have a crane set up? How about your rotoscope? was that hard to do? what the hell is a dvx? and did you really green screen all the beach scenes in? very impressive my friend. im bored at work if you cant already tell...

DVX is the camera he used not Sony handycam. It is also the reason this website is named dvxuser. The DVX is a 24p 3ccd Panasonic Prosumer camcorder. Doesn't look like he used a steadycam. It looks handheld, which makes sense because its a documentary not a narrative.

Just google DVX and you'll find much more information on it. To sum it up in one word, the dvx is HARDCORE!

silly me

wow thanks bugsybunny man for filling me in. so a DVX is some sort of new age 16 millimeter arri? I saw a picture of it and i dont see any where to put the film reels. it must use really small film. i heard 24 p is great. makes the look much sharper... :dankk2:

i have also been trying to duplicate that transition, do tell how u get it done. The doc looks interesting, very well done.

We certaintly do not have much of that problem here in a small town, but I really enjoyed it ! got me glued to the screen.
