Strange P2 transfer problem

Here's the set-up:

I do a shoot with my HVX200, 720/30P. I go through three cards. I realize i am shooting in 30P and switch to 30PN for the final three cards.

I use a (new to me) PB G4 to transfer all the footage, drag and drop - with locked cards, lastclip.txt file 1st, corresponding data 2nd, into uniquely named files. I "get info" on the files and lastclip.txt files as a quick way to check the copies - I don't have P2CMS on the computer.

The lastclip.txt files - which are something like 24k or 32k on the P2 card, are only 8k on the computer. i open them and the information is identical. I am a little freaked - but I am in the field and there is nothing I can do at that moment.

The footage goes off to the editor - I keep a copy on my drive.

Editor, using FCP 6.x can import (log and transfer) cards 4-6 a-ok, but no dice on any footage from cards 1-3. I told him to double check his capture settings, and he tries for a day or two - calling in another 'expert' he works with- still no luck on cards 1-3.

So I, using FCP 5.1.4 import everything fine on cards 1-3, but only about 75% of the clips on cards 4-6 (I got "no data" error messages on clips I could play back just fine using FCP)!

End result - client has all the footage.

What is up with all this fcp/p2 weirdness?

Do I HAVE to shoot 720/30PN for FCP 6 and not 720/30P?

Was this a lastclip.txt issue?

Any ideas?

hmmm . I'm clueless (as usual), but I would suggest trying to recreate your download scenario to figure out why the lastclip.txt files on your P2 card and your drive didn't match in size. My download workflow is similar to yours - using G4 PB in field but I use HD Log instead of the finder drag n'drop .
Lots of folks drag n' drop - no problem.
Historically, I've always blamed editors when clients come back to me w/footage problems (sometimes they're right). Get a third opinion from another editor or visit a FCP user group.

Keep us posted !
