T2i Strange Dust

Hey Folks,

I have two mysterious dust particles that show up in my T2I's viewfinder. Now I know these Dust Particles aren't from the front or back element of my lens because the dust does not appear on photographs I take or footage I shoot which means they must be in the body somewhere except I don't really know where because of my general lack of knowledge in regards to SLR viewing systems. From my understanding, when I'm looking through the view finder, I'm really looking at light reflected from a mirror shutter into the view finder right? Which would mean that my troublesome dust resides somewhere on the mirror shutter right?

Or do I have it all wrong...

I'd inspect things myself, however I'd rather not leave my camera body open for long so I thought I'd ask. Any pushes or pulls in the right direction would be appreciated. Thanks so much folks.

It's in the ground glass. Take off the lens and look at the frosted piece of glass on top. Don't touch it directly because it's easy to ruin.

Ah I see, thank you very much. What way would I go about getting that dust off. I assume I wouldn't do it myself. I'd probably have to get a canon cleaner to clean it up for me. Or is there a way to do it myself if I'm brave? What kind of tools would I need? Basic lens cleaning supplies? Essentially, what would not scratch the ground glass?

I had that happen to me when I went to Taiwan. I basically took off the lens and blew in there carefully. Not too hard. It should be enough to get the dust particles off. It worked for me. Everything works well.

Speaking of the devil, I just happened to get some dust particle on the focusing screen myself, but for me it is from the inside, not the outside. I tried anything I could to get the dust out, but did not work, so I ended up looking up how to remove the screen. I found this helpful article:

http://www.focusingscreen.com/work/550den.htm

This did help, but the problem is that once I got it cleaned, I put it in, and it was clean. I took some pictures, and dust particles got on it from the inside again. How this happened... I have no clue. Any ideas on how to get rid of them. I do not want to keep removing the glass, and I do not like the particles there.

@ Piano Boy: I'll look that up. Thanks for the tip.

@ Peti1212: Good luck with your stubborn dust. And thanks for the article. It seems one would have to be pretty brave to try that out.

Face the camera down when you blow air into it. It does the trick.

I've also seen vacuums used from a distance.

Thank you for the replies. I ended up doing that again, and now it is dust free. The glass is very sensitive, so if you end up doing this, take extra caution when picking it up with tweezers. Only hold it on the little outside borders with the notch. Once you do it twice, it takes about 1-2min to clean. Very simple actually, just do it it caution when you do it the first time.

What did you end up using to actually clean it? Did you blow air on it or did you end up using lens tissues or something?

be careful when doing this cuz it can be made worst if u spit while blowing on the glass. blow brushes are better
