Straight from 200a to Computer (P2)

The camera does work as a reader. You will need to set it to usb host in the menu. plug it into the computer then put it in vtr mode. hold down the vtr/cam mode button and it will go into usb mode. the files come up as a removable hard drive. Unfortunately the transfer speed is pretty slow compared to a card reader.

OK, I'm working on this very issue myself. I'm trying to move files from a P2 card in my new (used) 200. I managed to get taped footage to transfer to my MAC FCP7 using the same Firewire procedure I do with a 100B. So, I changed the setting to P2 media and stuck with the Firewire. The computer doesn't seem to know the camera is there. Should it be set to MCR or PC? I tried it with MCR. Is USB better for this? I'd assume Firewire is faster. What step am I missing? The instructions aren't particularly clear on this matter.

I suppose the more useful answer long term is to buy the card reader. Hmmm...

When using the P2 footage, change the mode to "PC" and make sure that you've set it to "1394 device" if you're using the firewire, or "USB device" if using USB.

By golly, it worked. Your advice made me understand what I was seeing in the operating instructions. I used the firewire mode. A card reader is probably still a good idea, I suppose, but they, like everything else related to P2 cards, is so expensive. Thanks.

OK, so once I've uploaded the files to FCP (from the camera, I don't have a separate card reader yet), what's the best way to clear them off the card? Delete them individually? That seems to work but is slow if you have a lot of them. Does the FORMAT function clear everything in one fell swoop? Also, it looks like I don't have to format the card when it's new. They seem to work right out of the box. (I'm still a newbie to HVX. So many different things from DVX...)

PS, I just bought a shiny new 32 GB card on Tuesday, just in time to miss the price drop. D'OH!

I use the format function in the camera or the format software. Both will delete everything and allow you to record again. I think if you delete all the files one by one the cam will give you an error and you will have to format anyway. Where did you buy the 32gb card? Some dealers offer 30 price guarantee kinda thing and you may be eligible for a partial refund. I'd recommend at least calling them up and seeing if they can offer you anything.

Yes, indeed. I bought it at B&H, and they are going to honor the new price and refund me the difference. No problem. (I've always found their customer service easy to work with.) Cool.
