Storage on a budget

I've done lots of searches and read lots of posts, but I'm still at a loss for a clear answer.

I've currently got two Lacie d2 triple interface drives (one 250gb, one 500gb) both of which are pretty darn full.

I've got 18 DV tapes I need to get into FCP ASAP and get cutting on, so I'm looking for some budget storage solutions on the fly.

Something like this looks promising: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicat...etails.asp?EdpNo=31389&CatId=2778#detailspecs

Are there issues using an enclosure like this with a MBP? What's the shelf life of a 3.5" drive outside of an enclosure? Would the "daisy chain" work with the HVX? (as in HVX to enclosure to enclosure to MBP, becasue there's only one FW400 port)

Something like this makes sense to me, I've got the Lacies for in the field, and then use the enclosures at home for cutting and backup. Anyone running something like this?

Thanks!
