"Stop the Matrix" - Repost

Reminds me alot of the film Baraka. Very nice work, I wish that it wasn't all sepia toned, but it does ad to the overall feeling. I would just love to see some of those scenes in more color. Looks like you chose some very interesting locations to shoot.

Tks all for the feedback!

Yeah, depressing...

For CC i intended obtain a bronze color rather than sepia.
Anyway I have to say that colours, yesterday, were not that exciting, especially at the factory.

"Stop the Matrix" - Repost

Sorry to post again but I followed some of advices here on DVXUser and I got a new definitive clip of my experimental short film named "Bardo Thodol - The 49th Day".

The movie is available in Flash and it's 20Mb Streaming.
(You soon get signal)

It's about what happens on the 49th day of our being dead.
If you do not escape the Matrix you are born again this world.

(At least this is what says the ancient "Tibetan Book of Dead")

PS:
If you do not understant the content it's likely time to read this book! ;-)

Woah, what did I just watch? Some of these shots are rrreeeeeeaaaallllllyyyyy loooooooooooong........... and then repeated. I think I kind of got the whole production/reproduction thing... I think? If you wanted to frusterate the viewer, mission accomplished. And Im not sure, maybe it's because it was in .swf flash format, but some shots seemed really dark. As far as an art form goes, I don't know art, but I know what I like. This was probably just over my head. Others might have more to say, but for me, I'm mostly just confused.

Oh thats beautiful. I like the Crayfish in the sink.

After a second watch... i liek it even more. I love the slow tilts, and that pancake machine. its was simply gorgeous. The repetition, was mesmerising. I am interested in reading the book now. :)

I thought it was awesome! I've seen something very similar on a DVD from Japan, the whole 45 - 55 minute dvd was mostly timelapse shots and some really weird stuff, but I loved it (I believe the company was from Osaka). Nice job!

nice work, i really like the cake machine, very interesting. did you shoot 4:3, then crop and do your tilts in post? how'd you do the pans?

very nice. I love this. Man, I REALLY want some cake now. That wasn't red bean cake was it?

Hi Alessandro,

Its been a while since you posted this clip, but I viewed the footage as you originally posted it and just did a search to find that and look at it again and noticed that you had substantially revised the piece. (I went looking for the footage again because I enjoyed it so much the first time I watched it.) I had some reactions to the changes that I thought I would share.

I have to say that I felt the piece in the form you originally posted it was much more immediate, had more impact, and spoke more directly to the idea you are conveying, as I understand it. I think some of the footage you added (the crayfish, the woman on the rocks in the water) actually distracts from your idea--they didn't seem to fit with the other shots, perhaps something about the change in location in both from the exterior urban setting of all the other shots in the initial part of the tape. I also felt the cuts that were used in the original version made more sense than the fades you added in the new version, and wondered whether you added them to deal with the change in location from the new shots. Finally, I liked the text overlays you used in the first version, thought they added a dimension that helped convey your idea, and missed them when they were removed.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked this piece. It just feels a little overworked (if that is an appropriate term) to me in its current state. I preferred the earlier, more straight-forward version. Just my personal reaction which I thought I would throw out for what it's worth.

Thanks for posting both clips.
Kevin

Dear Kevin, thanks for your opinion.

I totally agree with you for the movie being "overworked".

I have to say it has been an experiment made with some "philosophers" and actually there are 4 versions!

As the subject is a bit uncommon I accepted hints from philosophers to have a work meeting diferent requirements.

But I do agree that from a filmic point of view it is overworked.

Anyway I m very glad you appreciate this experiment!

Alessandro
