Stock video

Hi,

In my workplace they are interested in having a royalty free video website in the style of iStockVideo (more or less) but in a smaller scale. I am going to be in charge to shoot some of the footage with my A1, so I was wondering if anyone with experience (or without) here could advice me in how I should deliver these videos. Some questions spring to mind:

- 25f/50i?
- They're thinking of offering only HD/HDV, is 1440/028 good enough?
- Compression? h264,sorenson3?
- Should I do color correction or leave them flat?

If you can think of any other considerations, please let me know.

Thanks

First off, I don't do much stock footage, but video is my livelihood and my passion, so I'll throw in my two cents if ya don't mind. :)

- 25f/50i?

I think it depends on the market. Will you be serving people that want progressive movement (like film) or people that are looking for video motion? My answer to everything is: yes. Do both. The more choices, the more business.

Are you talking resolution? If so, if you're going to be processing it anyway (i.e. not leaving it in the .m2t format), I would uprez to the square pixel 1920x1080.

- Compression? h264,sorenson3?

Is it possible to offer the original .m2t files when shooting with the A1 so that people can get the original without any generation loss at all? Maybe have a preview .mov file for viewing online and then provide the actual .m2t file for download?

- Should I do color correction or leave them flat?
My opinion is to shoot neutral. Post the original file, no tweaks, and let the client decide what he/she wants to do with them.
