still trying to figure out the best doc strategy

I hope to add two 16GB cards to the 8GB that I already have. This will give me 100 minutes of 720p/24N. Is there anyway device field aside from an HDD, to download and clear the cards. The P2 store can only store 60GB's which means that if I only take that out into the field I can only get 150 minutes of footage a day...I guess I am asking if there is a bigger P2 store...

No, no bigger p2 store. A cheap pc laptop will work wonders though and is only limited by the hard drive in it. Have heard problems of mac p2 card copying, dont know if thats been cleared up or not.

Panasonic will be releasing the AG-HPG10 "P2 Gear" in August. It doesn't have a built-in hard drive, but you can connect external hard drives to it, and it can even power them through the USB connection (provided it is a low-power laptop drive).

That gives you virtually unlimited storage and the ability to hand drives off to the client when you are done shooting. You can also connect enclosures with built-in RAID1 to help guard against drive failure.

Jackfate,
You are actually getting 250 minutes or (4 Hour) of material. Once you fill up the P2 store your two 16gb cards and single 8gb card are back in use giving you an additional 100 minutes on top of the 150 in the P2 store. That's a lot of shooting for a single day. Do you anticipate capturing more than 4 hours of video in a day or before offloading to hard drives?

thats a good point jim. i guess 4 hours is a lot. but ideally i would have double that... just in case. i am going to be shooting in an isolated place, where i dont want to be carrying around too much expensive gear (the hvx is enough). im trying to avoid shooting minidv, because i want the option of blowing it up on film for theatrical release...any other suggestions?

This might sound silly but I think if you are going to out in the boondocks more P2 cards are going to be your best solution . . . don't forget you can rent extras when the need arises. A second option might be to pick up a second P2Store . . . I see people giving them up (reasonably) on occasion--me, I'm hanging on to mine. Best.
