Still Image Capture (Still Picture)

In the brochure for the AF100 it mentions the ability to do Still Image Capture (Still Picture) at 1920 x 1080.

Does anyone know if this is suitable for doing Stop Motion?

I think it captures JPEGS, not sure about the quality. You might be better off using a DSLR at higher resolutions. Way more options in post that way.

It does capture a 1920x1080 JPG. It only does it while not recording. You assign "CAPTURE" to one of the user buttons and then press that button to grab a frame. There's no way to remote-control trigger the JPG, so it's far from ideal for stop-motion work. It could be done if you have a sturdy tripod and a light touch, I guess, but ...

This feature could be handy to take stills of the setups on set. The jpgs then can be quickly taken off the cards when ingesting the footage and emailed.

Or just use your cell phone.. Ha ha.

I always hated how tiny the "thumbnail images" were on the P2 cards. I wish they would be at least 640x480. Much easier to catalog clips and see what's on a card from a computer.

Thanks for the answer. It's a shame it doesn't allow for it to be remotely fired, it would have been cool to be able to use it do some simple stop motion work.

Still, 99.99% of the time I want to use the camera for filmmaking and it's perfect for that so I can't be too disappointed.

Hey Barry

Are you sure the wireless remote wont cause it to record a single shot?

Would you check, I don't have a camera at home this weekend.

Thanks,

Jan
