FS7: Still camera for occasional use with FS7 II

Well of course. But every lens that works on the A7 will work on the FS7. I even use Sonys 18-105/4 lens on my A7RII in crop mode and even that makes for 15MP stills.

Well then A7RIII looks indeed interesting. For video I have always heard the A7S line is better than the A7R line. But I personally use neither so I'm not speaking from experience. Just based on what I have always heard.

the a7rII when shooting 4k was a super35 crop of the full frame sensor.. this is probably why you have always heard that. Apparently the new a7rIII shoots 4k full frame video as the a7sII does. But the a7rIII stills will be a much higher quality than the a7sII stills, as well as the new autofocus ability in the a7rIII.

I bought the a7sII just over a month or two ago as I ran into a couple situations where my original A7s was not cutting it, I needed that internal 4k. I sure wish I held out just a LITTLE bit longer as this a7rIII would have been a much better purchase - I'm really getting into stills lately. Alas, such is life.
 
A7RII uses the whole sensor in 4k but can be set to S35 crop also in 4k compared to the A7SII which can't do real S35 crop as it has so few pixels to start with. But the A7SII can use clear image zoom feature to enlarge the available pixels and do S35 crop as well as a trick.

Rumours has it that the upcoming A7SIII wil have 15MP thus could to real S35 crop video.
 
The A7RII looks better at 4k in the crop mode. Both work fine. S35 is sharper.
I use the same lenses with the still cameras and the FS5. In Slog2 the A7RII matches pretty nicely.
I just ordered the A7RIII, but I'll keep my A7RII as a backup.
 
To me A7RII is better B cam for FS7 because it shares same sensibility, far better AF and ability to do FF or S35 , A7SII is better in low light condition but we need minimum of light anyway... the only thing is that a7rII or A7SII can't do 4k 60P, 10bits with décente bitrate for Slog.... even new A7RIII can't do that, so futur tells us if this conditions could be change with A7SIII. That is the only condition to change my A7RII.
