FEATURE: STEP OFF (was "Battle") - Narrative Feature

They were pretty careful when they said "a producer". I just figured that they used that because they purchased it and they wanted to get a familiar name out there. Either way, it caught my attention. I didn't know that he worked with you BEFORE the Gate got to it.

It may be early to ask but are you happy with the deal? Anything you'd do different for the 2nd go around? Was the film noticed at festivals or did ya'll just beat the pavement? Tieuel Legacy!

Yeah, we've got some writing projects that we've done for him and hope those get the MAJOR greenlight at some point but things move really slow in Hollywood which is why we hustle on the indie side as well.

It's not too early. We like our deal, don't LOVE it but it's a big win if you look at it from the perspective of a totally independent film made outside Hollywood. Of course, how they handle the film is important too and it's too early to tell on that note.

Different? (I was just asked this on a local television interview that I did on Monday) Not really, there's definitely things we learned and will know how to do everything BETTER next time around on the business end and of course you always try to make your next project artistically better as well but fundamentally...not really. We did exactly what we planned to do. Had a plan, executed it and came out with the kind of deal we'd hoped to get with a major distributor. We'd love to step up in the future in terms of "Name" recognition in the talent department because that is one of the things that was cited by the distributors who had an interest as something that needed an upgrade...but that's common sense. They want names on the box for marketing purposes. We do too but the resources only go so far in the indie world...or should I say the true indie world :)

We didn't go with any festivals, we beat the pavement and got a ton of interest from distribution companies with our original trailer (and Mixtape, etc.). We hand picked about 6 that we wanted to deal with first and sent them a rough cut.

A couple passed, a couple made offers and we went with the best one. Ironically on the first day of filmming I was pep-talking cast and crew at lunch and exlaimed..."Lionsgate or Screen Gems!...that's where we'll be!" And low and behold...LIONSGATE!

Hey, couldn't find an email for Mr. Cooper, you wouldn't be able to PM me one would you?

Thanks,

Martin

The trailer looks awesome!

Can you talk about the post process (i.e. what system did you cut on and what did you use to grade the film).

BTW, did you use a dof adapter on the ex1?

Wow. I realize that I never answered this question throroughly.

We used COLOR to color correction.

my bad jkc123.

Less than 2 weeks till it is available though.

We did a radio Interview last night (we being myself, Co-writer/Producer Eddie Singleton, Producer Bennie Swint, and Director Laron Austin, plus later lead actress Onira Tares) on VVCradio.com and our interview starts at around 52minutes into the broadcast.

We talk about indie film, indie music, etc. and of course the topic of the day "STEP OFF" and its pending release March 15th!

Found this going around today and got excited for a minute (thought I had a celebrity endorsement)

22 hours ago - Miley Cyrus to Paparazzi: Step Off! ... She actually stepped out of her car and spoke...

It's a party in the USA...Tuesday March 15th!! Miley knows :)

(the link has nothing to do with the actual movie so unless you are a Miley fan, I'd prefer you try any other link in this thread)

Been hearing folks say that "Step Off" is listed as coming soon at RedBox locations along with The Fighter, The Switch, and Unstoppable.

So I went by a RedBox machine and sure enough, it is listed. So I assume we'll be in the lead by this time next week :)

Well, one can dream, huh?

That's great info that everyone needs to know. You don't HAVE to be in the film fests but it COULD help. If you're open to it, I can put in a word for you to interview on the Double Down Film Show. Pete Chatmon and Anthony Artis run it on blogtalkradio.com. I don't know how far ahead they are booked but it might work out with the release of your DVD.

Thanks for continuing to post for us. It's encouraging and entertaining. Tieuel Legacy!
