Step down rings

If I only want to get one set of ND filters and my largest lens is 77mm could I get multiple step down and attach them all to get down to 52mm? I cannot find any step down ring that goes from 77mm to 52mm so it seems that this is my only option. Is there any negative to doing this? Would this option even work?

Glad you found what you needed. Seems like a good outfit with a broad selection - and they're up front and honest about the comparative quality of the various brands they carry. Kind of unusual.
