Steadycam solution for 35$

Recently I found sth interesting on allegro.pl which is a polish website with auctions (still more popular than ebay.pl). A guy is selling sth he calls 'steadycam solution' for 100PLN which is about 35$. The link is here: http://www.allegro.pl/item696161912_nowosc_steadycam_okazja.html . If u cant read polish you wont understand too much, but you can look at the photos and watch a video: http://www.pilecki.cba.pl/allegro/steadycam.divx. What do you think about that? Could it be useful? Looks very funny, the image is shaky anyway, but still a bit better than handheld and it's only 35$. I started to think about this, because I want to shoot some short documentaries which doesnt need too much stabilisation, but of course handheld shots look very nasty... Anyway, I cant spend more than 100-200$ :( I remember that a couple of years ago I have seen something called 'arm tripod' and it was just a stick you can put comfortably on your arm and shoot. Are there any better options for me?

Oh.. forgot to say that if you want to use it quickly you need to buy a clip like manfrotto 323 for about 30$

Interesting, I think many of those parts could be found for cheap at the local plumbing aisle section at Home Depot or Lowes here in the U.S. so you might be able to build it for even cheaper than $30.

It's called the Poor Man's Steadicam. Google it. I have one but I did not play with it yet because I need to get the manfrotto 323 like you mentioned.

I wouldn't go as far as calling it steadi anything because there is no gimble, its just adding weight to the camera increasing it's inertia.

Call it a stabilizer :)

This design is stolen as are the pictures and is being resold as something else. Check poor mans steadicam, he builds them and has instructions to male your own.

I've built one and it actually works alright. You don't need an adapter or anything just use a bolt and a flange! It basically just makes handheld sequences a little less insane but doesn't really make things all that steady.

This is a pretty nice super cheap design:

I'm going to make one similar to this, with my own modifications for the GH1 (and hopefully it'll look a little more slick).

[whoa, this is my first post - I've been lurking so long, I feel like I post here all the time! My GH1 arrives tomorrow, so I'll probably be posting more often]

LOL, that looks like a big scam, because this guy wanted to sell also "his patent" for this steadycam for about 7000$ haha :O
