Hi

I hope I posted in the right category.

Like to know if anyone here taken Steadicam workshop. Any recommendations?

Will be in SF/LA in Aug and hope there's such courses then

Cheers

i have gildecam v 16 , never took classes, been practicing on my own im doing very good ,if you own a steadycam i dont see why you should attend any classes,

If you spend $20,000 - $70,000 on a system it makes sence to spend $2200 on training.
if you spend $7000 on a Flyer, then $500 to be tought by a master how to use it makes a lot of sence too.

Sure you can buy a piano and learn on your own, but taking lessons will give you a huge jump start and prevent bad habits from the get go.

Exactly. Lessons from someone who is extremely experienced will always help out in ways you wouldn't have thought of.

sure you can buy a piano an hire someone to teach you will make you play music, but the best musician learned on their own
sure you can learn form a master , but you end up just copying hes work
why would they hire the student if they can get the master, just be creative and diferent , NOW THIS DAYS THE FILMS ARE BORING theyr to perfect, let the camera shake little let the mistakes happen, the big director try to just duplicat that,in the other hand we are tryng to be perfect
so far i do not know any famous director who went to school to learn film making,

This is exactly why you learn the basics, techniques, and a few tricks from the masters, and then venture out on your own!

Personally, I've taught myself everything I know about video/film (I got rejected from my high school video productions course. LONG story), so I just began doing it on my own. (EDIT: DVXuser has also taught me more than I would have ever expected :) )

And music, I had some help from a teacher at school with piano, and a friend helped me with guitar. But then I went out on my own path and got better on my own.

The bottom line: it just helps having someone more experienced show you the ropes.

George Lucas? Didn't he go to USC?

It's funny that Spielberg got rejected from that place twice, and he came out (In my opinion) a far superior film maker. But he just had it in him from the beginning, I suppose.

Pardon my ignorance, but I thought steadicam workshop duration is usually 5 days. How different will this 2 days flyer workshop be?
