Steadicam Options

I own the EX3 and looking at a Steadicam purchase next year.
These are my options.

I read about the Pilot and how good it is but if at any time in the future I need to add extra like wireless mics etc it gets too heavy so that swung me back towards a Flyer.

However as I will need a second Cam I am now leaning towards getting a new ex1/r as a second cam and using that with a Steadicam Pilot.

Thoughts guys?

Steadicam Pilot - euro5k
Sony EX1R - euro5k

Steadicam Flyer LE - euro 10-11k

i own the Pilot and my biggest complaint is the vest. way too much velcro and at times a disaster. gets stuck all over itself much of the time. also picks up lint like a magnet. be careful where you set it down.

the weight you are talking about sounds like it could become a problem for the Pilot. i remember what it felt like to outgrow my Glidecam 2000 pro with my EX1.

the Flyer is a lot more money though...ouch!

i may mod my Glidecam Smooth Shooter vest to take my Pilot arm. Glidecam vest kills the Pilot vest.

Pilot is great except for the vest. they really cheaped out on that one.

hotspur,
i think the pilot with the ex1r is the way to go. the ex3 maxes out the pilot and there is no room to grow... Having a "b" cam would be bonus.

i was actually thinking that down the road i would pick up the "r" to use on my pilot and as a "b" cam.

however, if you think you may end up with the pmw 350 some day you may want a bigger steadicam.

p.s. whatever you decide... definitely get the idx or ab battery options

Thanks for that lads.

I think I will go for the pilot because of the need for a second camera anyway.

Do you mean these batteries......5 hours stated but I'd say 4 hours realtime.
no , i mean the battery plate on the bottom of the steadicam sled... it comes compatible with either triple aaa batts, idx batts, or anton bauer batts. you can buy the pilot with the mount and the batteries plus charger... or just the mount if you already own the batteries.

I think powering the camera and the steadicam monitor off the sled is the ideal situation and keeps the overall weight down.
