Thanks David, I had already seen this (and others) it was really actual experience 'in the field' I was after.

Mikko, Thanks.... the guy in the shop was a bit sceptical with regards 'balancing' as it was on the very limit of the max weight.

i was really suprised at the obvious quality of the product (then again at the price so I should be!) the 2 things that still concern me are....

1) Do you feel that there is a limit to shooting duration because of the overall weight?

2) Is there any way/method to control the camera i.e focusing while 'flying'

Yes there is a limit to shooting duration. It's different for every person, but it's normally enough for most shots. I've yet to get too tired that it spoled a shoot. Takes are short, and even during event coverage there often a lot of breaks so it's not an issue. However if you are wanting to shoot continuously over 10-15mins non stop then i'd recomend a vest system like the Flyer.

As for remote control.. I have yet to test either of the remotes (Varizoom or FOXI) on the Merlin. Due to the wieght of the HVX, the wired remote may be able to work without too much influence if you cable it correctly.
For most Steadicam shots either autofocus or locked manual focus is more than adequate.
