steadicam for HPX170

Just wondering if anyone has a small 'price effective' steadicam that they've used that works well.

I've heard varying reviews about the small 'hand held' systems for smaller cameras such as the ones varizoom and glidecam make.

Has anyone been able to get good results out of the glidecam 4000 with the HVX170 or do you need a full body harness to get anything that works well

Thanks in advance!

That's a really nice piece of video there. At 2:40 that's the coolest move I've ever seen.

Oh yeah, my Glidecam X-10 works great with my 200. I fly the big boys too, this pairing works just as well.

I have the Glidecam 4000 and it works fine with my hpx171 though it's pretty heavy. It goes well for short shots but for longer shots you will need a vest (next thing I'll buy).

I use mine with the glidecam 4000. I agree with Hjrt, for long shots you will need a vest. The cam gets really heavy after a few shots.

what's your opinion of the best suited fit for the 200A?

Same: Pilot also.

As a pretty basic rule of thumb:
Merlin is best for palmcorders
Pilot is best for handhelds (DVX100 form factor)
Flyer for light/semi shoulder mounts (Ala XL1 class)
And then up from there...

There is of course lots of flexibility in that. You can generally just squeak stripped down cameras on smaller stabilizers, and you can of course always add weight (or sometimes accessories add so much that a bigger rig is necessary - for example a 170 with 35mm adapter is very different than a bare 170)!

I bought the Merlin for my HPX170 and I'm not loving it. It must be because the camera is at the top end of the Merlin's weight range, but I find I'm constantly fighting to keep the camera balanced. I want to try the Pilot some time, I feel it would be better suited to the HPX170.
