Any recommendations? I use a b-hague minimotion for my GH1 but not happy with the results..

Also, any recommendations for a shoulder mount? This thing is heavy

Shot a whole weekend with the Steadycam Merlin.
Loved it, thou it is the most expensive one of the small stabilizers.

For long shooting you want ether a vest or a big pack of pain killers.

Thanks Frank, I'll try pain killers (or maybe gym?!) to begin with - but in the mean time, are there any specific brand / model of vest u might recommend?

does it make sense to spend the same amount on the camera as the steadicam? Are there any cheaper alternatives that yield just as nice results?

this is a slight hijack i suppose but i have a steadicam JR that we used for a few scenes in a shoot last month... i am selling it in the marketplace section of the forum for $250... it is not perfect for the SLR route but does a good job for sure. i put fish weights in the bottom to balance it out... worked like a charm

Personally I dont rate the merlin and the vest combo

I like .. no vest.. blackbird

With vest .. Pilot

THe reason I dont like the merlin and vest is that I think the merlin even when fully loaded does not have enough mass to drive the Pilot arm properly

I also like the GC HD 2000 - its not such a good stabiliser as the merlin or blackbird but is a lot stronger - doubles as a monopod etc
