This spot was produced to air during the Olympics. Shooting outdoors with a very tight budget always makes me nervous but with a little research and of course asking the right people the right questions I feel this worked well. I wrote a pretty beefy blog post on the setups if you're interested.

I really only used the Sigma 18-35. I kept trying other lenses but it just seemed to work best. Shot with the C300 in C Log.

I didn't edit or grade this one. The compositing was done by the agency we worked with. They did a great job tracking the signs.

This looks great, it's amazing what you're able to do with such a minimal crew. Your blog posts have been really informative as well. Thanks!

Looks really nice. I like the subtle slider moves. Do you usually just manually push the camera on your Cineslider? Thanks for the detailed behind the scenes.

If the PB pier could tell stories of what's gone on under it over the years, it could fill a newscast. Makes me miss San Diego Erik.

Very nice job Erik! What 17" monitor is that? HDMI in? I'm looking for one.

Thanks Ned!.

The Panasonic monitor is model BT-LH1710. It's pricey. No HDMI but I have a a BlackMagic converter if I need to feed HDMI. It's a great monitor. Like the 17" size for portability. I like to use it in the edit bay as well for grading but mostly it stays with the camera.

Hi Erik,

Yes that's the monitor I am used to using but I don't own it, the clients expect a 17" and that has become the default model. I didn't know there is an adapter for HDMI, I will look into that.

BTW, I never noticed you're in San Diego. I was there last week filming for the Navy for 3 days on the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (#76) at the North Island Naval Base. Too bad, I would have bought you a drink. I chickened out and used an ENG camera instead of the C100, very cramped down there and needed to shoot wide a lot.

Is there anywhere you have your C100 settings listed on this forum? I can't shoot C-Log because I have no idea as to who will handle the post and can't count on any grading.

Thanks

Bummer Ned! I work downtown three blocks from the bay! Oh well next time. Shooting on ships os hard. So tight. I bet you bumped that ENG cam a lot.
I don't use any real secret sauce because I shoot C Log and wideDR all the time. I do my own editing too so that helps. WideDR is pretty good even if just a simple S curve is added. I was using Cowpunks profiles but after the firmware update the color science changed and made them act strange. Color shifts. This is the one that I liked.

709LOG - video gamma profile that uses adjusted Canon Log color matrix. Looks quite similar to shooting Log + View Assist, but without the increased dynamic range that the log gamma provides.

cineLOG - Similar to above but with the cine1 gamma profile; more muted colors and flatter curve with a bit more dynamic range.

CINEMA.2 - A subtly adjusted CINEMA profile that corrects some of the color skews inherent in the native profile. Yellows are less green, greens are less cyan. Skin is just very slightly warmer. Takes full advantage of Canon's log gamma dynamic range, and looks great in View Assist and with Canon's LUT applied.

709LOG
Gamma: Normal 3
Black / Master Pedestal: -2
Knee / Enable: On
Slope: -2
Point: 90
Sharpness: -10
Color Matrix / Select: Canon Log
Gain: +30
Phase: +11
R-G: +3
R-B: +1
G-R: -8 or -6
G-B: -2
B-R: +3
B-G: -1

But it's not very good now if you have the latest firmware. Maybe some tweaking could be done.
