Starting from scratch Canon, Nikon or Sony mounts for Sony FS100/ FS700

My workhouse lens are the Tokina´s 11-16 / 28-70 / 80-200 all at f2.8 with Minolta/Alpha mount, really tough guys. I use with La-EA1 on the FS100 and the Nex 5n and native with the A77, my primary lens are Canon FD mount, . But is you want a better compatible system i think the Nikon lens are the best all around, can be used on Canon and Sony cameras.

Nikon lenses can't be used on Canon or Sony's A-mount cameras. The Nikon's mount has a longer flange distance.

nikon can be used on canon. and who really has a sony a mount camera?

Yes, I got it opposite. Since Nikon has larger flange distance, the lenses can be used on Canon (and Sony) mount. However, no VR or electronic communication with the camera.

Who really has a sony a mount camera? At least a a million people??

Well, my comments of course are based on video use, using Nikon lens on Canon Eos must be used manually and some adapter have focus confirmation, those adaptor with focus confirmation have a glass for use on Alpha cameras.

I know the Alpha line is not the must used camera line, but work for me and i liked, i don´t need thousands of lenses, just look for compatibility between my work system, i use my Alpha 77 when need to do a photographic work and handheld documental work, and my Fs100 as A cam and the Nex 5n as B for all my major video works. My lens are Tokina´s and Canon FD.

I like Nikon and Canon too, but i don´t know why, but i never use the same as everybody use, is just personal taste :).

Cheers

Wow guys thanks a lot. I am still a bit confused, but feel a lot more educated now :p I think I might go for the Sony alpha because I will probably do more event work than anything else and the phas detection would be really hand. But guys what I am really worried about is future use . I mean even red use canon mounts for their cameras and I would also love to do a lot of time lapse work on dslr as it is best for that. I keep on thinking about getting a used 5d mark 2 in the future as its full frame. What do you guys think?

You can also wait till Photokina (which is in Sept). Sony will release 35mm full-frame camera by then. Then Alpha lenses will be switchable between FS700/FS100 and the full-frame SLT.

Hey guys, I was looking at purchasing an FS100 in July and have had that plan for some time now. I have been torn on which way to go lens wise since first starting keeping track of FS100 footage. I have been really curious to see more footage from the Zeiss Contax lenses. Some of what I found looked really good and love the fact that it has a manual aperture ring. Any links to footage of the FS100 using Zeiss Contax lenses would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hey Zenogears:
I just bought the Sony A77. How do you find it with shooting video? Either I'm doing something wrong here, or it doesn't allow you to change the aperture while shooting. If it does, what am I doing wrong? I've set it to MANUAL before shooting and it stays at that setting.

I don't have an A77, but you will get better answers on DPReview forums

My guess would be that you have to be in manual focus mode, and the mode dial for video would have to be A
