1. Audio Technica AT875 short shotgun mic <$200
2. Comer 900 or 1800 LED light (do NOT get the LP micro!!!)

5. zazaslider or indislider

Bogen 679B monopod--very flexible
Bogen 475B w/503HDV Goes up to 75" in height)
Sennheiser G2 or G3 wireless mic system (min 2 systems)
Petrol HDV (or similar) bag
Sony 7506 or similar headphones--I recommend alwayssing 'em when shooting--
B&W 72mm UV and Polarizer filters
Light kit
Spare batteries (2, in case one gets damaged or won't hold a charge)

All that gear is well and fine, but leave budget for an editing machine + NLE and related software. You may want to bulk it up somewhat depending on where you're at now. Moving up to a new i7 950 based computer has done as much to increase my productivity as any piece of camera gear.

Regarding the Opteka Fisheye, go for it! No vignette (black corners) at all and a price that is hard to beat. Excellent quality. Compared it to the Century Extreme Fisheye and I really feel sorry for people coughing up between 3-4k for it.

Note that I'm talking about the 0.4-version (NOT the 0.3).

NTG-2
Tripod
LED light
Boom Pole/ tripod microphone boom stand
extended xlr cables
traveling cases - i found backpacks to be the way to go, for the cam and as much stuff as you can fit in it. I have a petrol side bag, and after a while, it really starts to weigh down on you. So good traveling gear!!

You might want to add a good hyper-cardioid pencil mic for any of your indoor shoots. Because of their poor off-axis sound rejection shotgun mics are best suited for outdoor work.

AKG SE300B Power Module and CK93 Hypercardioid Capsule

Agreed.

The Opteka 0.4 is a GREAT Fisheye with no Vignette at all. For the price, it's a no brainer!

I'm not sure why people are recommending the NTG-2. I have one of these as I originally needed the battery option (for another camera), but if I was buying new for my HMC I would get the NTG-1 as it is a bit shorter and is less likely to accidentally get in shot (and the HMC has phantom power of course).

ok thanks for all of your input.

im stuck between the Rode ntg 1 and Audio Technica AT 875R

there's also a $70 price difference

looking to buy one this weekend
