Start your engines - Firmware v 1.2 for PMW-F3 is now available

Remember from the last upgrade that some people had problems with some SDHC adapters, but not others. The instructions recommend SxS even though Sony also has an adapter.

The bin must be in the root directory of the SxS card, and no other files left on the card.

Then select Others -> Version Up -> Execute

Allow 5 minutes phase one + 9 minutes blank + 11 minutes phase three = ~24 minutes (mine took 22 minutes)

@Timur "Version Upgrade No File" means:

a) the bin file wasn't in the root directory
b) the wrong model or version is being used. <- check the version number on the camera too (other-version)
c) the data could not be decoded correctly <- copy it again in case it unzipped with an error
d) the header information is incorrect <- copy it again in case it unzipped with an error

Yeah.. Had to try it twice, unzipped it one two many times. Leave as .bin and put that in a freshly formatted SxS.

On a side note rant.. Got my F3 two days ago and cant believe the "SEL/SET" dial on the back does not have the "Direct Access" push-button feature like it does on a EX1. For those who never owned a EX, that feature enabled you to access nearly every setting you have visible on your LCD screen and change it. At least the S&Q dial has access to the Menu items.

I've tried everything and I can't update.
I bought mine with v1.10 so I never had to update before. I have to the SxS to SD card, so that could be the problem.
Any thoughts?

Are you getting an error message?

Did you format the card in the camera before copying the bin file only to the card? (You want it absolutely clean.) No other files. If you copy files to the card from your directory and delete them your computer may only not be deleting them but marking them for a recovery service.

Which express card adapter are you using? (I'm trying to remember which adapters were a problem before, Hoodman?? Need to read old threads.)

Thanks
Sometimes you think that it is so hard that you block yourself.
The way it worked for me.
1. Download and unzip.
2. Go to the card Private>Sony
3. Drag the .Sit file and drop it in the Sony folder
The rest do as it says on the instructions

I think I will sit on v1.1 for a bit till you guys work out the bugs :D :D :D

Seriously though, any "image" related improvements for non-slog users?

Notice I said what worked for me. I know that the instructions said that, but it didn't work for me with my Sony SxS to SDHC.
The way I found out is by storing a profile to the card and checking where it was on the card. I reversed with profile I downloaded from Abel Cine and it worked. Then I tried it with the update and it just finished updating and it works.
I am just giving another option for those like for me the Sony instructions wasn't working.

Can someone articulate how the histogram has changed with the version 1.2 firmware? I cannot see the difference. Is the refresh rate faster?

The histogram indication is taller. I was sort of hoping that it would be switchable like the waveform on the TVLogic monitor, from tall to short (which is really handy) but if it is I haven't found it yet. But then again I've barely started playing with it.

Anyone having problems with the simultaneous HD SDI and HDMI output. I have the new firmware installed, SDI/HDMI/i.Link IO set to HD SDI and it only does that. Same when I try HDMI. I only that one. Pulldown is enabled

Not quite following you. I don't see any difference between 1.2 and 1.1. If SDI is enabled, output is SDI and the same for HDMI. If both HDMI/SDI are enabled, output is simultaneous and must be set for 59.94 with pulldown rather than PsF to display to HDMI (in my case, a Zacuto EVF).

A couple of things so far with V1.2 (as I'm not very proficient with S-Log.) Powering up takes a little longer but the looping scroll function is very welcome.

This is from Sony --

If the camera is not finding a type A (Arri) lens electronic connection at boot up, it searches for it and takes a bit longer (I timed like 5 seconds longer). This will be addressed in firmware version 1.3.

Are you saying there is an option in that menu for HD SDI/HDMI, because I don't see one. I have pulldown enabled

Also, I don't remember it ever working on the last firmware. If I was using my Cineroid, I would have to set it to HDMI and use the A SDI to send a feed. (when not using S log)

Do you have lens info turned on? Is that why it's searching?

I finally timed the boot up time after the upgrade with a stop watch (I had previously timed it without the upgrade) and didn't find that much difference.

Before 11 seconds, now 12.5 seconds. I can easily live with a second and a half longer boot time.

I also took pictures before and after upgrade of the histogram. I don't see a difference although Sony clearly says there is a difference in vertical histogram indication. I just did a search and didn't find anything on the menu to turn it on.

I am booting up with my Red 18-50 lens in about 5 seconds. takes about 10.5 seconds with a non-electronic PL mount on camera. Either way, I don't really think this is a big deal.

I do not see any difference in the histogram. I just wish Sony had included a WFM but that's a different discussion.
