Star Trek

Well, the one thing I've read about this film which appeals to me is that it's supposedly going to take an optimistic tone.

I'm so done with soul-crushing cynicism.

I'm so done with soul-crushing cynicism.

I drink a hot steaming cup of soul-crushing cynicism every morning! Keeps the blood flowing. And after that I eat two sh*t burgers with cheese and wash it down with the tears of failed dreams.

I have never been a trekky nerd so I don't really care if they changed it up.

I have a whole box of shirts from this movie that say release date (actually: Stardate 12-25-2008, I wonder if I should stop using them for shop towels. Collectors item for trekky's???

I am looking forward to seeing this, it'll be fun to watch how many trekky's get pissed off from J.J's changes.

Looks like more GalaxyQuest.

But the problem is, it's supposed to be in continuity with the rest of Trek, and not a reboot of its own universe.

Says who? I never heard anything about that. if you only new how many changes were made to the Enterprise in the begining, it' didn't look anything like it does now. J.J. put it back to look like the Enterprise.

Various statements by Abrams, particularly in casting Nimoy as the older Spock.

His statement on the ship itself was:

If you're going to do Star Trek there are many things you cannot change. The Enterprise is a visual touchstone for so many people. So if you're going to do the Enterprise, it better look like the Enterprise, because otherwise, what are you doing?

I know it extremely well, from the original conceptions to the first pilot version to the second pilot version to the 1st and 2nd season production versions and the changes made for the 3rd season. I know the aborted Phase II ship and every painted panel color of all three versions of the Refit from the first six movies.

J.J. put it back to look like the Enterprise.
At no point did the ship ever look like that -- not on a drawing board, and absolutely not onscreen.

You have know idea how much crap Abrams got for changing it up in the beginnig, he learned really quick he couldn't do that and put it back. he he he, smart move. Hence the strong quote :) he he he

My other comment when I said in the begning, I meant the beginnig of when J.J. got invloved with this project...

Can't wait to see it.

What sources do you have for that? I ask, because I want to see what it changed from.

I agree with Jimerson, the Enterprise never looked like that. The 1701 A was close, but that was after a major refit in the first movie. So my comment to Abrahms is 'Have you ever even seen Star Trek?". This looks almost as bad as Bryan Singer's Superman Returns... or even Jon Peter's Wild, Wild West.

I have a family member that is involved with the project, I'd be on the ground with my balls cut off if I got pictures and posted them on the Internet.

Trust me, he learned really quick not to change it and thats why he is making that comment.

Glad most people are accepting or semi accepting the mild changes.
