Leaked pics of the Klingons don't bode well:

And concept art for their ships:

So, in this show that's supposed to be set in the "prime timeline," only a few years before TOS, they've completely, er, "reimagined" the Klingons into insectoids. Chances are, their ships will be filled with the typical snot cobwebs.

Makes me wish they'd put the energy and creativity into something... new. Why can't people let Star Trek (and Star Wars, and the comic books...) go? How many retellings can one story take?

If those are indeed Klingons, it's about the same as doing a new Star Wars project and changing Wookies into reptiles.

Wait the most confusing thing here is one of those screencaps says "netflix" in the corner. Thought this show was ONLY going to be on the CBS paid app/channel?

Yeah, that's insane. For continuity's sake alone, if it's taking place right at the TOS timeline, then surely the Klingons would have to look like this, right?

CBS owns the USA rights, but sold the international rights to NetFlix. Apparently NetFlix paid so much that they are entirely funding the series...

Seems like kind of a big jump to conclusions here. Even if these are Klingons, which we only have some uncited caption on equally uncited photos to go off of, they could easily be a variant. That was my first thought, and I'll stick with it in hearing that Fuller referenced 'Balance of Power' as a noteworthy episode in an interview. That's the one that introduced Romulans as a possible "offshoot" of Vulcans. We also know that advanced genetic engineering exists, and has been outlawed under Earth's law and is highly controversial. There's no reason some Klingons couldn't leave their people, Khan themselves into new augmented genes and become something different. No reason to assume it's terrible right from the start.

And anyway, it's a funded show where people are in spaceships. It's not like we have a lot of those to choose from. I'm excited to see where it goes, and I trust the people involved to do the best they can with the material. If it becomes substantially different than what came before, then I'll be excited for the change and familiarity.

On Next Gen, Worf says that the Klingons from Kirk's era had been genetically altered. This could be another experimental alteration?

really nerding out here but enterprise actually had a mini arc (several episodes) about this...something about a disease that plagued the entire race or something and the cure caused the mutations we know and love from Next Gen onward. Also if course, if you recall, klingons in original ST were dudes with beards and tanning oil because the 60s.
