Star Timelapse

I know, I know. Star timelapses, and especially timelapses in general seem to be at a fever pitch right now, but I decided to give it a shot.

It was a pretty clear night tonight, with little wind and the moon almost new. It's VERY short, although I sat in the cold for almost 2 hours. The composition is less than desired, but given my limitations (light from the nearby port on the horizon, cramped area of the suburbs, a not so wide focal length, etc), it turned out pretty well. Here are my settings:

Canon 7d
Canon 50mm 1.4
f/9.0
30 second exposures every 7 seconds (although without an intervalometer I was reduced to using the "Mississippi" method to count between shots, so it was probably anywhere between 5 and 10 seconds).
ISO set to 640

Music by Max Richter - "Organum" from the album "The Blue Notebook"

Also, this is my first "video" out of my new 7d.

Feel free to ask any questions!

EDIT:

Wow... forgot the link. Here ya go (posting this at 2:23 am Pacfic time, may be about 20 minutes or so before it gets cleared by Vimeo)

Yup, it's definitely short ;) especially considering the description last twice as long as the shot itself!

Looks good though. I always love night time lapse's like these. "as the world turns"

Wow, that looks great man. What were your settings? I assumed you were using an intervalometer, I really need to grab one of those ebay knockoffs asap.

Yes..I used one. Ebay knockoff works great. As far as settings..I go all manual. Just take a bunch of them before you start with differrent settings..and stick with the best one. Then hit go!
