FEATURE: Standing Firm - A New Feature

Redbox finally got it up on their website...feels good. :) http://www.redbox.com/movies/standing-firm

Can't believe this is happening, lol. If I'm being honest, I'm nervous to have my first movie ever at a Redbox with avg. joes browsing and possibly renting because reality tells me they're not going to like it (haha), BUT...it's amazing to even have it available there. Blows my mind.

Fantastic! Congratulations!

I will look for it in ATL at my local RedBox!

Thanks for the encouragement guys :) Definitely excited!

To share some helpful info for you filmmakers out there, the way Redbox works (if you can find an agent or distributor who can help you get it there) is they order X copies from you and pay you the amount agreed upon per copy up front. You see zero money from actual rentals. This is normal and has been normal for years in the rental market. Very rarely have the deals been different and normally it's because big studios ask for royalties on big movies. Either way it's good for indie filmmakers since the money coming doesn't depend on whether or not tons of people go out and rent it. Just getting in means $ and exposure which is wonderful! I'm really hoping that it'll rent well enough for them to order more (you never know!) and if not then at least I'll (hopefully) see a little bit of a DVD sale boost because of it.

I think Redbox is a major milestone for me as a filmmaker. It's been a long time coming accepting the fact that I'm a filmmaker. Maybe it's because I've only made one film, because no level of success the film has had has helped me feel comfortable calling myself a legit filmmaker. It might be because I'm a huge critic of my own work too. Standing Firm feels like I got my high school effort on a shelf which is as embarrassing as it is amazing. There's almost apart of me who doesn't want to tell people to go get it fearing they'll see how much of a first effort it is. Hopefully on April 24th when I walk up to the kiosk at my local Walmart and see the film in the listings, reality will sink in and I'll swallow my pride and just accept it? Lots of false humility has been rocking around upstairs lately...stupid me.

Time to get another movie done I guess? Thanks is in order to Kholi who keeps trying to give me a kick in the pants ;)

Get it done!

And thanks for sharing serious info with the community! Your progress at such an early age is amazecraze.

Yes. You can't stop now...now is the time to keep it moving.

That's what I'm trying to do...I'm just happy that "Step Off" has found another life on Cable recently as it's taking me far too long to finish the next feature blackhats (we wrapped principle photography recently though)...but despite your worrying about it being a first effort...PLEASE...it's available for Mass Consumption at RED BOX! Don't worry about it, it's a movie. You ARE a filmmaker. Embrace it.

Oh, and funny that Kholi is trying to give you a kick...as I (maybe too subtly) am trying to give HIM one :)

Anyway, congratulations again and we should definitely do lunch or a drink sometime soon now that you're in MY TOWN (and that's not meant to be a threat).

Been getting different people excited about the Redbox release. Almost 100 folks have gone to the Redbox fan page on Facebook to thank them for carrying the film. If I can get over 1000 that would be good, so working on that. The Redbox page has responded to each thank you with their own thank you so that means their administrator of the page is seeing it and responding. Lord willing if enough interest is shown on the page, they'll post about the films release on launch day. The Redbox page has 4.5million fans so that would be very ideal ;) My goal is to have so many copies rented out and have it out of stock in almost every location so they order more…

I also emailed every press contact I have in my back pocket to see who might help. This is the biggest marketing push I think I've made since the DVD release and the VOD release so hoping it's successful! It's possible that if enough people reserve their copy online they could order more because of that.

Hoping for a successful release...it's coming soon :) http://www.redbox.com/movies/standing-firm

Good to know! :) Was a bit worried about coverage but after searching around today it looks like things are well taken care of.

phew... :)

Looks like we hit the Top 20 at Redbox for Family movies on DVD...we'll see if the movie holds there, goes up the list, or drops off. Overall I'm surprised by how many are going out and renting it and how many reports I'm getting about it being out of stock in places I didn't think were possible.

Next step is to milk the DVD sales that could come from this release quickly before the summer slowdown which is always awful in my market.

‎Standing Firm has jumped up to #13 at Redbox for Family movies on DVD in-between Mr. Poppers Penguins & The Smurfs

Can't say I ever expected to jump up anymore. I wonder if we'll go up higher? This is nuts...

Congrats Kyle! Been follow your progress/thread for a while now and its nice that it all panned out and you have seen some success. It's inspiring to those of us who have yet to attempt a feature!

Looks like Standing Firm is heading to Netflix Streaming...not sure when. Just noticed on their site it said "coming soon." Contacting my content rights handler to see what's up...more details to follow.

EDIT: StreamingSoon.com reports release for June 1st...that's close :O
