Does the battery charger that comes stock with the HVX allow batteries to be charged off the camera, or (like my Sony TRV950) does it require the charger and battery to be connected to the camera for charging? If the latter, a separate dedicated charger will need to be part of my upcoming HVX package purchase. Thanks for the info.

The HVX's and DVX's power sockets are inside the battery mounts, this makes it impossible to have the camera plugged in, and connected to a battery, at the same time. Charging a battery on a DVX or a HVX is impossible.

So to answer your question: Yes, the batteries are charged on the charger, not on the camera.

Thanks Mikko. One more: is it possible to run the camera on the AC power supply while simultaneously using it to charge a battery?

Generally not on most brands, but I can't say for sure about the HVX.
