STAKE by Circulus Vitiosus Films

your actor was a perfect choice for this roll, however i found it hard to stay connected to the film because it was slow and made me a little depressed.

I am not sure what I expected from your poster...but this wasn't it! Although I agree with most everyone that it as difficult to understand what was going on, I still found it interesting and WANTING to know, so good job!

Liked the opening sequence with the warm shots through the window drapes and the reporter giving the news on the radio. It started to create a world for me and prepare me for the environment I was about to witness but then you kind of lost me after that.

It's apparent that this film means something and I fear that I may not be deep enough to get it. I THINK I might know what you were going for but I'm not sure. Anyway, thanks for sharing this one.

You did a good job on making me feel depressed. The lottery scene was a little too long because you lingered on that wide shot too long, otherwise you ventured into a complex, metaphorical interpretation of death, and did it with effect.

haha I have to say I agree. But I don't think that's necessarily your fault. I'm sure you wanted it to be a little depressing so you did your job there. Nice photography. Only thing I didn't like was the slow motion when he was walking down the street. I thought it would have been better straight up. Nice handheld stuff btw.

Disturbing. Whilst I think theres some work to be done on your story, i liked the overall concept and feel. Panning radio in the opening wasnt necessary. And seemed there was some auto exposure in parts?

I loved the name of your anti depressive - Fukitol, well slipped in.

'fukitol' is really funny.
in fact -- it was so funny that i wasn't sure if it fit with the tone of the movie. the rest seemed on the darker side, and here's this cleverly named anti-depressant.

but, i laughed, and wished i thought of it.
thanks

Liked the documentary style of it.
Actualy I have to confess that I´m not 100% sure if I understood the story.

Fukitol was a big laugh thou.

didn't quite understand it all, but it kept me interested. Was that a winning lottery ticket in the end or something? I didn't see anything that indicated it was a loser or winner. Anyhow good effort.

I had no idea what was going on, but you created a very interesting mood. Would love to know why it is titled "Stake."

This had cool written all over it, in many ways. It was at first starting out slow for me, but then things just started getting creepy for me at about 1:46, when I SWEAR I see a human eye (like a reflection) mixed in with the sunburst/lens flare.

From there, the writing/voice over is EXCELLENT. Some very well written stuff there! Mixing in some good cinematography, a creepier setting with the dude dealing the cards (cool/intriguing poster, BTW), it seemed to be really going somewhere.

However, I got lost by the end, not really understanding what has happened, other than the dude decided to over dose on pills (is that bottle of Fukitol REAL? That's one of the most hilarious/ironic things I've ever seen), and dies, while in a lucid state of seeing the card of death dealt to him (great FX too, BTW).

Didn't see how the scratch-it ticket, revealing the three crosses, tied in?

in the end in voicover when he is choosing a ticket we can hear:
"... but, above all ... to bet everything ... on one card " stake= something that is staked for gain or loss. in a society with no hope, his ultimate wish is to risk everything, his life.
stake=a prize in a contest = life or death, prison or freedom.
a lot of people is telling they did not understand the story ... its very simple, but it's interpretation is open.
he can loose in this game, he can loose his life if you like, or can be a winner, winning death he can escape this life, wich is prison for him for various of resons.

thanks you all for waching my movie and giving feedback, highly appreciated.:dankk2:

I like that heavy East-European mood. It seemed to me that you have lots of intelligent and intellectual ideas, but in one or in another way the puzzle didn't fall together. What I like to say is that I miss something what well rounded the film. All the same I have the idea that this film is better than the last one. I hope to see more from you in the future. :)
