Hi,

I have a canon 60d, but the stabilzation is a big problem for me. (It is really shaky and i love working handled. With the camcorder canon hdr-cx550v the stabilization is great.

But i like DSLR look of the results with DOF. The camcorder hdr-cx550v, the image results is always very flat and uninteresting.

I feel i need to upgrade this camcorder hdr-cx550v but the canon 60d is too shaky for me.

Any suggestions as an upgrade?
I would like to pay 1000$ and i would like to have a camera to be small

thanks in advance,
deleuze

There is a compromise...
The Sony CX900 has a 1" sensor, which is Super 16 size...so you can definitely get fairly shallow DOF with that and maintain camcorder features as well. It is $1499, but you don't need to buy lenses, ND filters or some of the other things you need with a DSLR.

Shooting with small form-factor cameras is always a challenge where stability is concerned. These cameras do not provide much bulk or weight to counteract the shake in an operator's hands. IS or non-IS lenses aside, it comes down to points of contact (camera to the body of the human operator) and practice.

If you aren't front-loading your camera with all sorts of accessories (matte box, follow focus, external monitor, sound recorder, etc.), then something as simple as THIS provides a lot of added stability in shooting hand-held. Add an LCDVF 3/2 to your 60D with this simple support rig and you have up to four points of contact.

Once you add all that other stuff and the camera becomes front-heavy, it is better to move up to a full, rail-based shoulder rig with rear counterweights.
