Stabilized XH-A1/Brevis/Rails/Mattebox

Here's a few shots from a PSA we shot yesterday with the XH-A1 and Brevis on 24" rails with mattebox and a 24mm lens. The lower section of the rig was mounted up with a Marshall 7" HD monitor and 12V power supply. These are frame grabs from the director's trusty old XL1. Somewhere during shooting the gain switch was flipped to high (and missed) so much of what we shot was at +12db gain..and pretty much nasty IMHO. It's going to cable at 4:3 SD, so they may use it anyway.

That's very cool man... I just got the Glidecam 4000 pro and am having a heck of time getting the thing balanced correctly... I was curious about the 35mm adapter and rails with the glidecam... I am sure I will find out soon enough how well it will work...

How are you adjusting the focus? Were you guys just at a fixed distance? Would love to see the completed piece...

The f2.8 24mm has a fairly deep DOF by itself..and we were using it 1 or 2 stops in. The only issue was following the marketing director's (the "talent") pace as he walked and talked once we set focus to that range. The footage was shot in 4:3 SD, and gain on the XH-A1 was accidently toggled to +12db. I'm not sure if you've looked at XH-A1 footage at +12db, but it's bad :-( It was too bad as the scenes were great.

I'll be shooting with the stabilized 24mm again likely this week and will post a few HD clips shooting with our new CF2L prototype imaging element.

For reference, here are some weights:

XH-A1, Brevis, 24mm, Mattebox with two 4x4 glass filters, 24" stainless rails : 11 pounds.

Sled with all of the above + Marshall 7" HD monitor and 12V batt pack: 26 pounds.

Full rig weight included vest: 42 pounds.

Ya +12db yields quite a good bit of noise almost to an unmanageable state unless it's pitch dark and the use is justified....

Would love to see some clips even the 12db.... : )

My Gain switch =
-3
0
+3
Exaclty for that same reason. it is all to easy to go looking for the white ballance and switch the gain on by accident. I use +3 gain on occasion (on purpose) and am quite happy with those results although I would never even consider shooting anything above that point.

I shot some stuff this weekend with +6 db because it was a dance recital and cerain pieces had very low light and +6 was the only usable setting if I wanted to see something.

I'll post clips of it later this week.
