SRW-9000PL for $8900

this one seems to have the boards. Hopefully this is like the F65's rotary shutter option, most of them seem to have it. I think an extra 1k for a kit with the viewfinder would be worthwhile. It also has a nice looking viewfinder arm.

I think this might be the camera to go for if you want to take advantage of the speed ramping. Can the 9000PL go up to 60fps? I know we were talking about the SRW1 and Codex in the other thread as options to get the ramping, but you are talking about a lot of money and extra parts to make it all work. 9000PL, v mount battery, couple boxes of HDCAM from ebay and you have everything to get speed ramping. The tapes could only be used for special shots to preserve the deck as long as possible.

I would not expect the SRW9000-PL to do 60p - I expect the limit is 50p. I beleive the reason for this limit in the F35 is related to the chip itself. I say this as it shares many circuit boards with the F23, which is capable of 60p. To me the most logical answer is the chip can't get past 50p. Since the chip is the same in the SRW9000PL, i expect the same frame rate limit.

call the guy and offer him 6k5, that camera used to sit there at that price for months ;) or 8k with a viewfinder thrown in.

Thinking about dumping that F55 and joining the club Dennis?

But you can forget the 9000PL!

Unless you are willing to drop some cash on an expensive HDCAM SR deck. How else are you capturing the footage? The 9000PL doesn't do playback out. It seems the board is for monitoring 444 only. At least this was the info I was given by a seller.

This is the only reason I didn't buy a 9000PL. I found one for a good price. Well this and the extra weight.

To capture HDCAM SR 12bit 444 you will also need a very expensive card in your PC.

hahaha no not really thinking of ditching it just yet. Planning to give the R5 a go which seems to offer the highest hope of ditching the Sony look without ditching the Sony itself.

:)

No playback on camera?
I once thought about buying a 9000pl, opening it, removing the hdcam deck and then wiring a solid state recorder inside.

In case there's still some doubt about this - I THINK what this means is that unless you have the 444 board you don't get full quality out, ie the SDI outputs are only really good for monitoring. With the 444 board you get full quality and 1.5G dual link or 3G single link from the SDI ports.

I've known about this for a week, but I was staying quiet when I thought I might pick it up for myself. But, I'll let the hounds at it...

There's a SRW9000-PL at auction in NYC with a current bid of $3,500. Description is: Sony SRW-9000PL HDCAM-SR Camcorder with PL Lens Mount, Op 67, Drum 15, Tape 15, Threads 164, with Camera Bag (No Mount Plate or Viewfinder)

I mean gads, how close to brand new can you get?

Same auction has a SRW-5800 deck, current bid $5,000.

Disclaimer: I have no relationship to this sale whatsoever.

It's a legitimate auction, but it's not eBay. Read the rules very carefully. There may be buyers premiums, fees, and shipping costs beyond the base price. For me, the current price too high. But maybe someone will get some good out of me posting the link.

About playing back the tapes, according to the srw-9000pl manual, you can do it.
Actually, only the srw9000pl and the combo srw1-srpc1 can do it at every frame rates and signal format.
Also 59.94P in 1080/422 supported but only if recorded on HDCAM-SR tapes.
it's on the op. manual from Sony on pages 210 and 211.

Yeah cool, but you can play back slow motion stuff shot at say 50fps at 25P and it will be slow motion, no need to conform. For me that's all I would need - there is no 1080/50P HD standard anyway!
