squeeze mode questions

Re: squeeze mode questions

Don't use anamorphic with squeeze together. If you want 2.35, as Mike says, use anamorphic + letterbox.

Your footage will always looks squeezed, because you double-squeezed it. Don't do that. Shoot anamorphic+letterbox instead.

Re: squeeze mode questions

THANK YOU guys for clearing that up-
truely appreciate the tip about using letterbox w/anamorphic lens...
many posts indicate a tendency to stay away from letterbox mode
-so I hardly considered it to be an option.
Cheers.

Re: squeeze mode questions

There's nothing wrong with letterboxed mode if what you're trying to do is get letterboxed footage!

The issues become when trying to view footage on multiple screen ratios (16:9 AND 4:3) because you then get into unsquashing/resquashing problems, and headaches to boot :P
No DV plays properly on both 4:3 and 16:9 sets.  They are mutually exclusive.  Your video will be squashed on one or the other.

If you send it to a DVD, then you'd want to shoot either with the anamorphic adapter or, on a budget, with squeeze mode.

If you're going for a film transfer, you will give up a significant amount of resolution by going with squeeze vs. the anamorphic adapter.  You have to weigh the cost and convenience benefits and tradeoffs.
okay-

Barry- last question...I hope....if I shoot squeezed and output to a DVD.....it will play "fullscreen" on a 16:9 monitor but will play "letterboxed" on a 4:3 standard monitor?

hope I'm making sense....

Thanks

Re: squeeze mode questions

Thanks so much.....we have been debating this whole question where I work and we had to start a project without testing the squeeze vs letterbox deal....so I REALLY APPRECIATE the responses.

Thanks again Barry :)

Re: squeeze mode questions

When you all are talking about SQUUEZE are you referring to the in camera LETTERBOX? If not, what do you mean by SQUEEZE MODE?
