F5: Spotted At Superbowl

End of 4th quarter after Baltimore voluntarily took the safety, caught a glimpse of an operator with a NewF. Didn't see PL mount so couldn't tell whether it was F5 or F55, but definitely was a NewF. And saw a ton of Alexa's as well.

Yup, saw that too. hehe. Characteristics of the new f's.

That was the NEW NEW Sony F57 with 70mm sensor for ultra shallow DOF. It shoots 12k at 20bits giving it a stop latitude of about 26 stops along with a color gamut that is generally considered to be outside the known universe. The real nice thing about it is that is can outrun a Flex by doing 25,000fps recording onto newly developed DNA based memory droplets.
Pricing is to be determined, but rumor has it it will be a little less than a GoPro Hero 3. Because the system has a base sensitivity of around 500,000asa it can actually see into the future where most people are complaining that it is still too expensive and the manufacturers are ripping us all off.

But then again, maybe it was just an F55. Couldn't tell for sure. ;-)

well even though I have a home in Baltimore as well as here in France I sensibly skipped the Super Bowl went to a bar and watched France vs Italy in the Six Nations Rugby match. No body armour, no half time show, no continuous stopping for reasons I've never been able to fathom with NFL events, less than 32 cameras that's for sure and no sign of a F55 anywhere. But like the preceding Wales v's France and England vs Scotland matches it was a great game to watch.......
I know....off subject, sorry!

Shhh!!! Don't talk about how **** American Robocop Handball is in comparison to Rugby. You know they don't like it!

I wondered why the BBC showed the superbowl last night as it is the first Six Nations Week end. Everyone would be down the pub discussing the rugby. I did start to watch the superbowl but gave up after 10 minutes. it is a bit stop-start and repetitive.

I guess if we can endure a Football (Socker) game, you can enjoy The Super Bowl. At least you can see the top commercials and some of the best entertainment in the world.

Soccer like Rugby is a global game played by most nations including the USA. BTW We didn't get the commercials and the other entertainment (hardly the best in the world) is not the reason for watching a football (soccer, rugby or American) game. As Peter said above one of the advantages in a rugby or football game is no half time show.

the beyonce halftime show was actually really cool!

A lot of really cool/clever screen work/integration.

Even though she did miss her mark on one of them, it was still really well done and an elaborate production.

Let's get back on topic to cameras ;)

I also saw a few Alexa's hand-held, particularly when mobbing the Ravens at the end of the game.

so the pop concert was the high point of an American football game? Strange. I prefer it when half time was 15 minutes and you got a 1/4 of an orange to suck. :-)

Edit... sorry I was at the bottom of page one and missed the comment top of page 2.

I want to see Zero Dark Thirty looks good.

I grew up in Baltimore and still in the area. Go Ravens!

I'm sure that we will see MANY F5, F55s in future games to come. They seem like the perfect camera for this.

NFL Films has a small fleet of Alexas and I'm sure they were all at the game. We also provided a handheld Phantom rig which I caught a quick glimpse of at the end of the game. Not sure who was running the F5/F55.

I grew up in Baltimore but I'm old so when I think hometown football I still remember the Baltimore Colts.

Thought I detected some Bal'more accent, Mitch. And I met Johnny Unitas when I was 5.

Thanks for the Alexa clarification. I saw at least one Arri film camera and suspected that was NFL films. Missed the Phantom.

It was an SR3 HS - capturing the NFL look in pure S16 glory. I did not see any 24" handlebar hand grips attached to a wrap around cage with counterwights on the back, so it was easier to spot than say the 5D's.
I will always have a spot in my heart for the SR's - remarkable little workhorses.
