Backing up my work on online harddrive, but the online harddrive only takes 2 gigs per upload, need split up 4 gig file to meet requirement, any ideas?

Run the footage through a NLE and re-encode the clips? Time consuming, but possible. Either that or get a new file service ;)

True, but keeping a 1TB drive (or 2) in a fire safe is good also! I just would die from those upload times, i cringe uploading a half of gig to istockphoto.

I agree that uploading files of that size sounds nightmarish. This is probably one of the safest backup methods (being off location)... but don't know many with the patience for this. You can transfer to an external drive and drive/bike/walk/swim it somewhere in a fraction of the time. I guess both copies might not be safe from a nuclear blast... but either would you ;)

If you are using it as a backup, no point in transcoding down unless you don't mind losing quality. Although the files are huge for transferring online, they are small for what they contain.

You might be best off using a common compression (zip) utility. Most of them (even free ones) have the ability to span over multiple volumes from a specified size. This would solve your problem, fit all of the small files into one chunk, and might save you a few bytes. Unfortunately, you would still need to wait the month to upload each card... :)
