Yea, most the studios have not bought an expensive $100M+ blockbuster script from a first timer in a long time if ever. I think they have bought a lot of smaller $30M budget scripts but those were usually from proven directors/actors/producers who decided to write.
The market today is about a zero chance an unproven outsider will sell a script to them and expect them to spend $150M on it.
The top proven writers who know how to write for the studio are 'made guys' who they go after.
I'm not saying this won't change in the future, it might but for now and what looks like many years to come it's not going to happen. I was told this by a guy who has green lit more hollywood movies than most, about 20-30 movies a year for 10+ years.
This is why I've decided to write a lot of my big budget ideas as novels instead of spec screenplays, or maybe linking up with an artist and doing a comic book.
Yep, let the studio develope the script how they want it from your novel at the budget they want.
I actually really enjoy writing stories in the screenplay format. It seems vastly easier to me than prose writing, maybe because I am a very visual person.
It just doesn't make much sense to limit myself to only writing scripts when the studios just aren't as interested in buying specs these days.
How bloody boring and tedious can you get...Spiderman rebooted???? What a joke. How about Radioactive Man brought to the silver screen, I'd rather see that even if it is from The Simpsons cartoon, rather that see polished turds all over again.
Dh'O! I forgot what thread I was in. My bad.
Are you a Spiderman fan? The old school cartoon was waaay better lol.
I know, it is fun. The big trend to come could be taking worthless scripts and turning them into novels. I'll I'm saying is if I were a writer I'd take a look into it for something that I really like. Go try to sell your script on Amazon for $5.99 btw![]()
