Anyone use the Speed Booster XL 0.64x on their G4 with a 24-105 f4?

Metabones states it gives an extra 1 1/3 stop of light, and was wondering if this equates to f2.4?

Cheers :)

To calculate the new focal length and f/# after attaching the Speed Booster XL you multiply by 0.64. So, f/4 becomes f/2.5 after rounding. BTW, f-stop progression in 1/3-stop increments from f/2 is: f/2, f/2.2, f/2.5, f/2.8, f/3.2, f/3.5, f/4

Are there any cheaper copies yet of the 0.64 kind?

why would use want to sacrifice quality on the optics just to save a few hundred bucks? The quality of glass you put in front of your sensor is not something you want to skimp on.

If I had the money for a real speed booster I would not be asking for a cheaper version. I just want to screw around on my GH2. Besides I was under the impression that some of $100 boosters are decent enough quality.

They say that it might lightly touch the shutter cover and won't officially support it for that reason but users have reported it fits and works fine with the gh2.

They are indeed quite decent. But only some of them.... others are downright awful!!
I recommend and use the RJ Lens Turbo:

However:
a) they're all x0.71, but giving up that 1/3 stop difference is no big deal for me.
b) if you're unlucky enough to own Canon lenses, then you will have to pony up the big bucks to buy the metabones. Think of it as paying "the Canon tax".

I bought the cheap Zonghyi (whatever) before the SB was out, and it is at LEAST 90% as good. Maybe more. But, it does lack the controls for focus and aperture. I have not seen a .64 version of the cheap ones. (but I havent looked in a while)

Same thing I have for my GH2, seems to work fine for video and haven't used it for the higher resolution stills (not my stills camera).
