Titanic is cinematic sappiness on estrogen therapy. Talk about a chick flick. Luckily they inserted a shot of Kate Winslet's breasts in the middle of it to remind all the guys in the audience that were still males. Once the credits began to roll, I abandoned my girlfriend and immediately fled the theatre. I had to score some steroids to restore my hormonal levels to their natural state.

Needless to say, I'll be taking a pass on this one.
Yikes man! That's too bad you need a lame breast shot to feel a movie is manly enough for you.

I side with Hudson here. I liked the movie, and can handle a "chick flick" when it's good and well-made. I already have the shitty DVD release and won't be buying the new one. I only take double-dip screw-overs on my big favs: Se7en, Matrix, Darko, etc.

I could care less about that sappy love story, but when that ship starts to go down that movie rocks.

Chris

I agree whole heartedly. It had good parts, and I obviously can't argue with a billion dollar box office, but the movie as a whole just wasn't my cup of tea...and I really can't see myself watching 45 MORE minutes of deleted scenes. ...but to each their own, my wife just rolls here eyes when I pop in the extended LOTR dvds  .

Har-Har!

Actually, even with the breast shot, this movie was still not manly enough for me.

The movie was too predictable. You know the ship wrecks, you know she's going to survive, and you know she's going to take Dicaprio's character over the rich dude. Being that the wreck itself is tragic, the romance has got to be tragic, too. So, you know Jack's going to die.

What was completely unpredictable about this moive? It had a breast shot and it still got a PG-13 rating. That's about it.

I'm not big on digital special effects, so all the CG doesn't do much for me.

Yar! The captain says: A movie 'bout a boat with no pirates is a movie that ain't worth watchin'.

I'M THE KING OF THE WORLDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!

Weird. The first time I saw it, I ABSOLUTELY HATED IT! For some reason, I really like it now. I mean, I REALLY like it. I dunno why. I think mainly because of the production design--its attention to detail. It's certainly a beautiful film to watch.

which reminds me anyone know the movie about a pianist(TIM ROTH) who has a piano duel on a ship he never leaves.the ship rocks back and forth and the piano is sliding as he's playing awsome! i know this is a different subject, sorry i just had to jot this down before i forgot

The Legend of 1900 directed by Guiseppe Tornatore (Cinema Paradiso)
A fantastic film that seems to be rarely recognized. Though the director is Italian the film was shot in English.

Regardless of how you feel about the film, we are talking about the biggest money-maker of all time here (a record I don't see being broken this side of 2020, by the way.)

I thought Deep Throat still held that one.

Or was that biggest profit, not gross?

Anyway, the movie's ok. The part where Shelley Winters was foundering around was pretty funny, but kinda sad, too.

Yeah, t'was sad...
But the scene with Red Buttons shouting, "I'm the king of the world" was uplifting, as was Ernest Borgnine's emotional line, "I'll never let go."

I liked Titanic, but can't see myself wanting to watch it again. Cool that there's a worthy special edition but, I just don't care. I think there are better chick flicks out there.

Did you see that NBC has a made-for-TV remake due out next month?

Not much point in me keeping up with what the Stateside networks do...still got a year or two left here (unless I find a job in Romania).

:)

I can't believe a SE has taken this long!!! They should take a lesson from Peter Jackson and New Line. The LOTR DVD's were extremely clever and profitable releases.

well everything together looks beautiful-but as I said some parts were a bit out of date.

I really like the opening and some of the sinking scenes and the aftermath, but that 3 hours in between is just painful.

I'll never let go...

Ug.

Its the "real" story of the Titanic for teenie boppers.

He's the king of the world, though.

Really.

If the story is so horrible; what story would you have told?
