Spec Ads for KODAK (5d) & for TIMEX (7d) - I'm starting to really enjoy these DSLRs.

Updated Version:

This past year saw good growth to my recently re-transplanted little company and as part of continuing that energy, we thought we would branch out and made some spec ads.

We plan on shooting 3 more over the next couple months that are more detailed with actors, etc.

The KODAK ad is shot with the 5D Mark II, the music on both is the same for the moment:

The TIMEX ad is shot with the 7D:

Any thoughts appreciated!!!

Thank you,

Chris McGuinness

I really like where you were headed on the kodak piece, by making it a personal story. I would have loved to see that photo to help me believe I was seeing something real. Also hearing the words though V.O. might make it more powerful than reading the words on screen.

Kodak looks great. without the photo at the end its a little depressing. Looks great. But needs that final idea that Kodak made a sacrificed hero immortal.

I appreciate all the comments... I agree about the photo and was in the process of locating, it now has the photo. As far as the VO, I tried it and let me tell you, I'm not the voice for it, LOL, it would need someone like Morgan Freeman to pull it off if you ask me... My thought is the text makes the viewer own it a bit more, lets them wander to their own imagination, obviously their is not right and wrong answer here... I've asked a couple other non industry people and they never even thought about a VO, maybe as cinematographers we just want to study the images longer?, (I know when I watch a foreign subtitled movie, example 2046, sometimes I get frustrated if the cinematography work is stunning and I really want to study it while I watch (obviously watch it again) the one thing a VO would do very well is help to shorten the piece, if needing a 30 second cut. I also was not in love with the font, I've put courier up now, I think it works having that screenplay type story feel.

You can make it more personal simply by having someone with a universal voice (like Morgan Freeman's), and by their performance making you BELIEVE that it is personal to them.

I personally think it would work with and without a voice over, because the message is very personal, and very universal. Maybe an old woman's voice? The sound of experience.
