Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Here's the latest, their thinking about re-casting him or cancelling the series together as a whole..., I hope they don't cancel the series, if anything they should have another central character step up, but then the series wouldn’t be called Spartacus I guests. What ever they decide to do, hope they show respect for him as they have been throughout this whole process. The article does make a point as far as other actors waiting in the wings not knowing if they will have a job and so on. This is a tough situation for a production company to be in but even tougher for a guy when his life is on the line.

I've always said his character could pass the Spartacus name to somebody else, as that isn't even his real name. Perhaps he gets seriously injured in the first major battle of the rebellion and passes it on in his deathbed, knowing Spartacus as a symbol of rebellion must endure. Or he is unable to fight and trains his replacement, allowing Whitfield to stay on in a limited capacity. There's lots of way to go if they're a little creative. Of course, they may have the scripts already written.

The only problem with that is, the history aspect of it all. I'm sure they can mess around with other things but not the history aspect of the name "Spartacus" because If I'm not mistaken, no such thing was ever done as far as him passing his name around and so on...

But I would love to see him stay on board, like maybe one of the witches in the village puts a curse/poison on him and he does his line from bed being sick while he gives Crixus orders to take charge of the rebelion..., hopefully the writers can be creative enough to make a believable plot around the circumstances....

But I am looking forward to the Prequel that begins January.

Hey, who's watching the new series? I thought this might be a skimpy, less ambitious prequel while they find a new Spartacus but nope, they haven't skipped a beat. It's the same great cheesy, melodramatic and oversexed show. Prequels usually don't work but discovering the characters sordid origins is oddly satisfying. My main criticism is that the show is slipping into Skinimax soft core porn territory at times. Not that the first series was in anyway more restrained, it's the execution of the sex scenes, not the content.

cheasy is the new suspense....Im starting to like cheasy. I've seen a few earlier episodes on Sat....Love how they overuse sex !

I think this show has to hold some kind of record for the most c*ck references, with Deadwood a close second.

Finally caught up with the two episodes, though the cheese factor hasn't missed a beat, some of the suspense has. Not their fault, it's kind of hard to be suspenseful with a character that you know eventually lives.

Can't wait until it starts to get to the part how Crixus becomes Champion, he is by far the most interesting character even though he has limited screen time.

I think this season they've taken the blood and gore to level a trillion LOL!

This season is pretty good. I do miss spartacus though. I like that they are using more practical blood then last season. I hate that we only have 2 episodes left!

That last episode Ring of Fire fight was kinda great, man they bring the gore to a new level. I hope I'm wrong but it seems like this last episode was the final episode of the season, it's only like 6 episodes? Hope I'm wrong though. I admit, I didn't see that ending coming.

Yeah, that was the last episode. This series was just supposed to be a stopgap until they figured out the whole Andy Whitfield situation. The ending was great and the best episode of the prequel series. Loved how they upset our expectation of what would happen to Gannicus, and how Crixus ruined Asher's gladitorial career.

yeah this prequel idea was a good idea and the ending to this season was just as good as the ending to the other season. these guys have some good writers on their team for sure. Bahtiatus steals the show everytime though man....they need to figure out a way to reincarnate him or something, lol...that's one mean mofo. would love to see how he woulda tried to get revenge after losing everything including his wife.

That Mr. Lucas, is how you do a prequel.

A new season without John Hannah, Andy Whitfield or Lucy Lawless? It doesn't sound promising, but I'm still hopeful.

They need to somehow bring Bahtiatus back from the dead for the next season. I don't care if they have to use a cloning machine or Doc's delorean, we need him back. But seriously, if they can somehow bring him back without some ridiculous way, that would be great. I don't see the show being the same without him. He literarily steals every scene he is in.

SPOILER ALERT
But I don't see how he or his wife could of survived that massacre at the end of the first season.

END SPOILER

Maybe they'll find someone as talented as him on the next season, let’s hope. I have hope in Crixus being that guy. He really didn't get that much shine time for the right reason but next season lets see what he does. He clearly upstaged Spartacus in the first season.

Dahtiatus, the long lost twin brother who returns to wreak vengeance on Spartacus. I'm calling it now.

I'm sure you've heard the sad news by now, man Life sucks sometimes, just when his Professional Life as an actor was about to take a new leap and this happens. But at least he died with his family by his side which is all a person can ask for in a time like this I would think.
